It's important to remember that this bill will make it a FELONY to carry at a private college (without permission from school) and the state's medical colleges, even with the new enhanced license. Be sure and have your state senators vote NO to this bill.

The bill was modified and now makes it a criminal offense to carry with the new enhanced license at a college sporting event in addition to private colleges and also the state's medical colleges.

The state senate passed the bill today and it is being sent to the state house. NRA and other gun organizations need to put pressure on the state house not to pass this bill.

You can thank just about every Democrat and some turncoat republicans for passing this bill in the state senate.

Contact your Arkansas state representatives on the judiciary committee and urge them to vote NO on Senate Bill 724. The above NRA link will allow you to contact your representatives.

SB 724 seeks to amend several sections of the newly enacted House Bill 1249, which was signed into law by Governor Asa Hutchinson on March 23. This bill, after being amended, adds public teaching hospitals and college sporting events to the list of places where licensees with the enhanced carry permit would still be prohibited from carrying. Through intentional drafting by Senator Dismang, SB 724 would allow the entire University of Arkansas system to prohibit concealed carry.

It also amends existing law to make private colleges and universities automatically prohibited for any permit holders. Currently, private schools may prohibit carry if they choose to, which respects their property rights. SB 724 restricts their rights as property owners

It looks like, from further reading in the main newspaper in Arkansas, that some of the politicians are now trying to add daycare facilities and other locations to the restricted spots with the enhanced license. It's important to remember if the legislature succeeds in making private colleges and some of the public colleges basically off limits, you are automatically subject to felony weapons charge (carrying on school property) and/or Class A misdemeanor weapons charge (carrying loaded gun in public building) even with the new enhanced license. That is pretty harsh for someone who has paid a good bit of money for class fees, regular license, and then paid more money and spent more time for an extra 8 hour class. These have got to be some of the strictest and most expensive requirements in the country for college carry and now the politicians aren't even happy with that and want to put road blocks up for good people trying to be legal. It's important to remember that college carry is legal in a good bit of states with just a regular or reciprocal license.
