I hope he doesn't retire. Specter may not be one of our best friends in Congress, but I'd rather have him than anyone Gov. Rendell would appoint to fill the vacancy. (Not sure what PA's process is with regards to this issue.)

I am ashamed to admit that when I heard this on the radio this AM(Paul Harvey, I think?)my first thought was "Good riddance". I actually surprised myself at such a cheap shot, though said to no one. So in pennance I wish him good luck and I admit, better the devil we know than the devil we don't...

Arlen will be getting chemotherapy every other week for the next few months. His Hodgkin's disease is not advanced. He is expected to stay in office and to make a complete recovery.
