Well guys, here is my latest creation. I took a 1860 Army sheriffs barrel and
put it on my 1851 Navy Sheriffs frame. Now I have a 1851 Army. What do you
all think? Which looks the best? Army or Navy. I know, I just have too much
time on my hands.

My eye sight is not what it was some years ago. Really need to have them right here in front of me so I can give a serious inspection and made the correct decisions, so just sent them over for a few weeks and I will get back with you.

I am no photographer but I have a '51 Army 44 and a '61 Navy 44. The pietta 44 Navy has Pietta Army grips on it and the ASM 1860 Army has ASM '51 Navy grips on it. I don't like the feel of the Pietta Navy grips so I traded a guy the Navy grips for Army ones and we are both happy. The ASM came as a 44cal 1861 "Navy" but it has the Army upper and Navy lower.

The second one looks best to me...( Lol...)

The 'Navy-Navy' as 'Navy', as it were...

I'd have to go with the Navy-Navy as the asthetics are burnt into my brain.
I bought a Piettia .44 Navy andhad to round off the rear grip and frame to get the oddball shape to fill my hand. To tell the truth the brass framed .44 is a very accurate shooter@ both 7 and 15 yards and shoots spot-on at 7 yards with a 15 gr Pyrodex load. No recoil and minimal noise and smoke with this loading.
Always beware to load light with any colt-type brass framed revolver.

Go Army Beat Navy!!!,,,,,,,,,,,,,oh wait
sorry kneejerk reaction

You do know that hasn't happened since 1996 and Navy leads the series 54-49.

Oh I like the top one I just can't bear to say that word :D

Light, sure, but that's about too light. :D I'm still playing with mine. I like 777 and tried 15 grains and 20 grains topped with corn meal filler so I could seat the ball deep enough to touch the powder...well....filler. I think I'm going to try a conical next trip with 15 grains pushing it, but you're right, that round ball load is accurate as heck. It's got me to thinking about the practical field uses of the gun. :D It shoots way high, but I carved on the rear sight notch today, deepened it so as that I might try a different sight picture next time that might get the groups down where they're supposed to be. Always better than kentucky elevation. :D

Pietta packed a note in with my gun that said not to exceed 25 grains BP/Pyrodex and I'm below that even with 20 grains 777. I think the frame should hold up with that load. It rolls up a little bit, but not much, on firing.

1860 Army?

I have a CVA (ASM) 1860 Army. I really like the fluted cylinder and the brass grip frame and trigger guard. The piece is well made and functions.

:scrutiny:

What do other people shoot for loads in a .36 (.38) ?
