Anyone planning on attending the Modern Arnis Spring Training Camp in Knoxville, TN April 23d to April 25th with Jeffrey Delaney?

Anyone trained with Mr. Delaney in the past or been to one of his seminars? Your opinion?

I'm curious as this has the potential to be very good, or very bad. This session would include a school day (Friday) so I'm hesitant to sacrifice a work day for something/one unfamiliar to me. TIA!

I've never heard of him. But, as a K-town resident, I'd be interested if he's good.

Arnis

I have not trained in a seminar with Delaney but I have trained with other Modern Arnis instructors.

I attended the Modern Arnis Symposium in Buffalo NY in July 2003, and have trained at a seminar with Kelly Worden, and have attended 8-10 Seminars with Bram Frank.

You will like the Arnis, it has a very practical foundation.

I personally prefer the knife work that Bram Frank teaches because I carry a knife all the time anyway. I do not carry a stick. But the concepts and motions, traps and locks are all useful.

See if you can obtain (or maybe you have) the 3 training tapes done by Remy Presas that introduced Modern Arnis. Watching the Remy Presas tapes will let you see Mr Delaney at a younger age as uke for Remy Presas. It seems to me that all of Remy Presas students got a lot of practice in tapping out. OUCH!

Good Stuff

:D

Noel, thanks much. Have done one knife class with Joe Truncale near Chicago that was FMA based.

Do not have any tapes of FMA whatsoever. I have pick those up if I go. I'm old school CMA (Seven Star Mantis, Qin Na and Wing Chun Kuen), looking to branch out a bit.:D

CMA and FMA

To my inexpert eyes there are a lot of similarities in Arnis and Wing Chun.
Bram Frank's first art was Wing Chun and he has some sticky hands ideas in his version of Modern Arnis. There is definatlely some ideas to pick up.

If you have time and want some knife stuff you may want to check out some of Bram's seminars this year:

Portland OR April 24-25
Vancouver BC July 17-18
Spokane WA July 24-25 THere will be a shooting class on July 26

You will pick up specific skills in 2 days, to a larger degree than any other seminar I have been to.

Bram also has several seminars in Europe, but I figure maybe the west coast is far enough. But you highly paid lawyers can afford the travel - No? :)

Bram's site

www.cssdsc.com

Bram has several good instructional videos available at that site.

(In the interest of full disclousure, I will say that I am a baby instructor in training for Bram's CSSD/SC but do not have any financial interest in any of the above seminars)

Yes, based on pics that I've seen, does look a little Chunny. As well, the pics over at the International Modern Arnis Federation look Mantisee. Look at "Block #1" that's "hook, grab/pluck, strike" from Mantis Boxing's empty hands and weapon sets! Go figure.

No big deal. Trade routes spread CMA about and a great idear is a great idear.:D

Worth my time, no?

Speaking of Bram, rumor has it that he will be making a special, one-day only engagement in lovely Baton Rouge at the end of July.:D

Should be a good time. I'll see if I can make the drive and bring some of my slugs with me.
