I came across this on another site. Boy some of us would be in big trouble if this is the case. I probably have that much in ammo just in 22LR. I know some of you have more than that.:neener:

Police: Man said 30,000 bullets were for target practice
He is held on $500,000 bail

HAVERHILL — Keni Garcia told police he intended to use the 30,000 bullets they found in his car and home for target practice.

That is hard to believe, the prosecutor at Garcia's arraignment said, because if he were to fire a gun for eight hours a day, it would take weeks for him to use all of it.

Garcia, who allegedly bought thousands of rounds of ammunition and had 10,000 bullets in his car when he was stopped by police Thursday, was ordered held on $500,000 cash bail yesterday.

Attorney Socrates de la Cruz of Lawrence, who represented Garcia, 32, of 12 Freeman St., at his arraignment in Haverhill District Court, said he will appeal the high bail in Superior Court.

Garcia is charged with three counts of possession of a high-capacity firearm, illegal possession of ammunition and illegal storage of a firearm. His case was continued until June 12.

Assistant District Attorney Christopher Holland asked Judge Patricia Dowling to impose $750,000 cash bail.

"He has no reason to stay here," Holland said.

The judge ordered Garcia to surrender his passport, and said that if he makes bail he is not to leave Massachusetts.

Garcia is a native of the Dominican Republic who was expected to become a U.S. citizen yesterday, but then he was arrested, authorities said.

That's BS but all the people in MASS. know who the hoarder is! lol

I would think this will get dismissed. It sounds like he was arrested on a technicality about the firearm card thingie. I've never seen any laws about ammo possession.

In the link it states he has 60 days to acquire it from the time he moves to the state so as long as he's within that time limit this should get thrown out. Hopefully he is a law abiding citizen!

What Fetus said is true you can't have even an EMPTY cartridge case without an FID or LTC in Mass. But on the side 30,000 rds???. This guy needs to be in jail cause he'd be much safer there.

Why do i suspect there is a little more to this than just having a lot of ammo?

Holland said at Garcia's arraignment that a "joint effort" by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and state police found that Garcia had previously bought 20,000 rounds of ammunition in New Hampshire.

Hate to tell you this, but 30,000 rounds in possession is NOT against ANY law that I am aware of and describes quite a few people of my acquaintance. It's only 6 cases of .22 rimfire, for instance.

That's exactly what I thought while reading through the story. Except when I got to the part that it happened in Mass. But even so, there's got to be more to this story that is not being reported.

It says in the article that he is suspected of shipping ammo to Dominican Republic. I think it is legal to carry in DR, but I don't know if this guy is selling to average citizens needing carry ammo or if he is re-supplying criminals.

Definitely more to this story than just some person being randomly picked-up.

Really? Maybe two weeks if he shot 2000 rounds a day.

Isn't there always?

This is a very badly titled thread, the real reason for the arrest was for allegedly buying guns and ammunition from New Hampshire without a license.

Between turf wars and drive-bys, they do a lot of shooting. And they tend to buy more than they really need, anyway.

If you say so, although most exchanges are very few rounds fired. Of course you are also talking about gangs and not just criminals.

I don't recall much in the way of license being required to buy ammo in NH.

I am guessing he was buying it and trying to illegally export it back to the DR.

The BATFE angle makes me think the feds helped bring him down but don't want to charge him federally just yet, but wanted him in jail before he becomes a citizen (why else wait until the day before he becomes a citizen).

remember the feds have to go to a grand jury to charge someone. most states don't.

A better title would be "Arrested for breaking the law."
A stupid law, yes. But his arrest had nothing to do with ammo possession, and everything to do with breaking (maybe) state licensing laws.

Except if you live in Mass, you need a FID to possess ammo.
(h)(1) Whoever owns, possesses or transfers a firearm, rifle, shotgun or ammunition without complying with the provisions of section 129C of chapter 140 shall be punished by imprisonment in a jail or house of correction for not more than 2 years or by a fine of not more than $500. Whoever commits a second or subsequent violation of this paragraph shall be punished by imprisonment in a house of correction for not more than 2 years or by a fine of not more than $1,000, or both. Any officer authorized to make arrests may arrest without a warrant any person whom the officer has probable cause to believe has violated this paragraph.
Section 129C. No person, other than a licensed dealer or one who has been issued a license to carry a pistol or revolver or an exempt person as hereinafter described, shall own or possess any firearm, rifle, shotgun or ammunition unless he has been issued a firearm identification card by the licensing authority pursuant to the provisions of section one hundred and twenty-nine B.

I just loved Romney addressing the NRA the other day. I am surprised he was not struck down by a bolt of lightening.

I hope they put it up for sale!

They could make a good chunk of change the way the the ammo market is today!
:D

The ammo alone didn't get him in trouble, the firerams charges did. this guy may be a gangbanger the police have been watching for some time. Then again, he may be joe citizen. We shouldn't jump to conclusions and defend anyone who is arrested on a firearms charge without the rest of the story. $750,000 bail is indicative of his flight risk.

He will be subject to deportation if he gets convicted of the firearms charge being a non-citizen even if he gets no jail time.
