I just heard on Fox that both parties in the Senate have no stomach for the Feinstien AWB and that it will not be part of any legislation geared towards reducing gun violence.
Of course that could change after the 2014 mid term elections, but so far so good.
Then again, it never had a chance in the House.

The downside on all of this is that a gun control bill without an AWB and magazine capacity restrictions might stand a better chance of being passed.

Until the bill is withdrawn or voted down Fox's opinion doesn't provide any assurance.

None of this is over yet because admendments could be introduced later. This might just be their way of trying to make a filibuster less likely. We still need to keep up the pressure.

Various bans are still being pushed at the state level. We'll just have to wait and see...

A vote on the floor of the senate for a bill like this which is most likely to fail might turn out be a neat trick for Conservatives because a vote would let everyone know what various Liberals are in favor of. (as if many of us didn't know already) When these anti gun people come up for reelection, this vote might tip the balance for a Republican Conservative to win. Just an opinion.

Reid says it won't be part of the Dems' gun bill. DiFi can offer it as an amendment, which will be voted down. In any case, it's not going to pass the House and probably not the Senate either.

Good news for now, at least until she tries to add an amendment to the bill. Now maybe the darn prices will get back to normal on AR's....yea I know, wishful thinking right?

Reid just stated that even if Feinstien put the AWB in as an amendment, it would be lucky to get 40 votes let alone 60.

I can't wait until some of the rip off artists get stuck with overpriced stuff they've been trying to rip us off with the past couple months.

Waaait a minute... I thought that $4000.00 was a fair price for an AR15? Hmmm...:D

nation wide background checks

The responses I have been receiving from my Republican congressman is that both parties will most likely agree on standardizing background checks along with CPL requirements. The states will still be charged with handling the paperwork.

It isn't over until it is over; but the news is favorable for now:

Do not let up and do not get complacent - Reid has absolutely zero reason to be that specific prior to a vote on a major bill supported by the President, so you can bet the statement is being made for some propaganda purpose - whether it is to rile up antis, get gun owners complacent or lay the groundwork for why the bill failed I don't know; but heartening.

Having said that, the Universal Background Check bill is a thousand times more dangerous than the AWB. It is the "All gun owners are felons now!" bill. Drive over to your buddy's house to show him your rifle? That is a "transfer" with no background check and you are now a felon. No guns for you ever again. Keep the pressure on!

Hey Johnny, do you think it is appropriate to say that Obama has an "action packed expense account"?:)

(only severe old radio fans would get that)

Feinstein will be allowed to introduce her AWB as an amendment to the gun control bill. There will likely be another amendment that outlaws "high capacity magazines": Senate anti-gunners believe it stands a better chance of passage than Feinstein's AWB.

alsaqr,

That is what people keep forgetting. Even though Reid isn't letting the AWB stand on its own, the amendments can be the real deal breaker.

Means nothing

but only that we need to start fighting harder NOW!

Let them know again that we know they probably are escaping certain votes on certain issues.

Let them know we are watching, more intently than ever, on issues they will vote on.

NO UBC - NO REGISTRATION.

Tell them we want them to speak out for honest citizens and that it is wrong to try and fix crime by turning decent people into criminals.

NO COMPROMISE.

STAND & FIGHT

Keep up the pressure. They are going to play games. We have to watch like a hawk.

It's good news, but everyone needs to keep in mind that WE CAN NOT WIN THIS WAR!

We might win a victory here and there (this might turn out to be one of those cases), but the war itself will NEVER be over unless the other side finally wins.

There are only two long-term outcomes for this war. We can lose, or we can keep fighting. We will NEVER win.
