(The telescoping stock is the only feature not jersey legal)

There's another "common sense" gun control law for you... :barf: :banghead: :cuss: :fire:

The bullet that comes out of a fixed stock rifle is less lethal than the one that comes out of the telescoping stock rifle, and that effect is exponentially magnified if the rifle happens to be black, also. If there are lights, detachable magazines, or flash suppressors, the bullet becomes explosive and kills everyone in a 10 block radius. It's a well known fact. :barf:

Hmmmmmm.....
Interesting theory Juna.

What happens if the owner has changed the forearm, grip and buttstock to another color, say OD?

Does that make one able to shoot only in a technicolor zone?:banghead:

Aren't Ruger PC9s illegal in California because they have black furniture? Or is that an old wive's tale?

Here's another question - what's the process for buying a long arm in PA?

I am actually closer to the Poconos than a lot of these other stores in central and south Jersey.

I did notice Sarco was near Ray's so maybe I'll go check out both tomorrow.

But I'd prefer a ride to PA . . . .

Got off my lazy butt to look at Nappen II again. Looks like I can buy longuns only in PA from an ffl as long as they (or I) have the Certificate of Eligibility form.

TIme to surf for some Pocono dealers . . . .

Yep. I find most PA. dealers already have the form. However the only AR15 type rifles your going to find in PA and the non-neutered type. They have no reason to sell NJ ban style rifles.

As I stated before. Buy a stripped lower or a completed lower with or without a buttstock. Then go to one of the dealers like www.adcofirearms.com and have him build you an NJ legal upper. This way you will have a NJ compliant rifle.

IMPORTANT: Went to Sarco - Corzine's AG sent them a letter.

TEMPORARY BLOCKING HAS BEEN RULED ILLEGAL!

SARCO got a letter from the NJ AG that says they have changed their mind about temporarily blocked mags - they must be permanently blocked in NJ to be legal.

Looks like Nappen is on it, but the first poor schlub who runs afoul of this will loose his house in a legal excercise.

The sales showed me the letter addressed to SARCO.

THIS IS CONTRARY TO WHAT IS POSTED ABOVE - PLEASE BE WARNED! IF YOUR MAGAZINES ARE TEMPORARILY BLOCKED YOU ARE NOW A FELON.

I am going to post this as a separate thread as well so it doesn't get lost.

Funny how things change with a new Governor.

EDITED TO ADD: Looks like I'm late on the uptake with this: http://www.anjrpc.org/mags0106.htm

Back to our discussion . . .

Mauser88 - thanks for your help. I've been doing some research and it looks like you have the ticket, but I think for my first AR I still want to buy one whole. Maybe number 2! But that's getting ahead of myself.

Went to SARCO for the first time - very nice guys. Looked at a Romanian AK (single stack) clone but wasn't real impressed with the craftsmanship. Very rough stock and machine parts. Maybe's that's typical of all AK's - first one I've held.

They had a few used AR's but nothing new. Prices looked fair. The sales guy suggested I figure out exactly what I want and then give them a call - they would price and order it for me.

He also suggested I go to Ray's (which was my next stop anyway) because they typically have a pretty good selection. SInce I was in a buy it today mood I went there. Nice of him to suggest it though.

Well although they did have some stock I was greeted by the usual standoffishness/borderline rudeness. List prices and they didn't have exactly what I wanted. Looked at an M1a - nice but I still want an AR.

Sarco had 10 people in the store - what I would expect on a Saturday before the holidays. Ray's on the other hand had an absolutely EMPTY gun area - no customers other than me.

SO once again I walked into Ray's (where they only sell Colt and Bushmaster because everything else is no good! . . . . idiots) ready to buy and walked out with nothing because it just irks me to spend $1000+ and be treated like a purke.

Their price on the M1a was Springfield list btw . . . .

Sooooo I am surfing DPMS, Bushmaster and Armalite sites. Guy suggested Armalite.

Flash supressors are a no-no but are compensators ok?

Yes, the temp. blocked mags ruling changed 6 months back. Muzzle brakes and comps are legal as long as they are welded and pinned. Wilson makes one that duplicates the standard birdcage flashider but the front is closed except for the 1/4" hole for the bullet to exit. Yankee Hill Machine also make the "vortex" style in a brake. I have one of each on my AR's. I like the look better than just a plain end barrel.

For the NJ folks - wound up buying a Bushmaster V-match and a Russian Saiga from Meltzers in Garfield. They had a good selection (better than anyone else in this part of the state) and the guys were good.

Even had a decent price on it as opposed to Sarco (list price, not too helpful when I called back with model numbers).

It'll be cold tomorrow but I'll be out there . . . thanks for everyone's help!
