I found this clip on youtube. The amount of wrong information is just totally mind boggling! Assault weapons were created to be used in trench warfare? Funny, I never read about assault weapons in World War One! And of course the comment about spray fire from the hip. It really is a shame the amount of disnformation out there.

I really had to laugh about bullets fired from these weapons can go through doors. LOL! Like the bullets fired from regular rifles cannot?!? Oh boy.

Holy crap... No wonder they have disabled comments and ratings. I SO would have liked to "dislike" it, but alas...

I`m sure I`m now dumber for having watched that excretious pile of Bull pucky!
I`m amazed that some one would risk thier name and reputation by Deliberately spreading easily refutable lies.

Here. They can't complain about this one. It's wood.

start 2:10.....<um>and the reason that<um>they<and>impose a particular danger is that velocity<um>and that the way that they fire that the fact that they designed to spray fire<um>and, the fact that they are an attractive weapon to those bent on mass-murders such as the Columbine shooters and such as the Washington DC snipers who<uh>used an assault weapon.....stop 2:36 (end)

In my humble opinion, the number of people shot was not due to the rifles used, as I am sure a bolt action rifle would have done the same damage, if not worse.

You know the scary thing is plenty of people will see this and actually believe it because they wouldn't know any better....

Although it's comedic gold.

I would have believed it 10 years ago. I would have listened and swallowed that just hook line and sinker. Why? Because I had no experience with any weapon beyond 20 and 12 gauge hunting guns and a couple 22lr bolt actions. So in the absence of experience, it is much easier to convince someone.

The good news is, I got better:

That lady has some bizarre criteria....
Most centerfire rifle rounds will go through the ballistic vests policemen wear in day to day patrol operations.
"Go through a door?" A .22RF will do that, too.
"Spray fire from the hip?" Oh ... you mean like Chuck Connors used the 1892 tricked up Winchester '92 in the opening of "The Rifleman" every week? Oh Gee whiz, that wasn't even a semi auto rifle, was it??? My error.
In 1994 when kongress was debating the AWB, the FBI issued a study indicating "asault weapons" were used in one half of one percent of gun related crimes. That is miniscule.
It also debunks this woman's fears. Criminals seem to prefer handguns as they're more concealable.

I've listened to this anti gun pablum for too long. Why do peoiple continue this stuff?
In one episode of the Fox broadcast program "COPS" I recall a chase involving a man with a rifle. The cop who retrieved the rifle held it up to the camera; it was a Winchester 1894 in .30-30. The officer quipped for the camera; 'if the perp had shot me with this, the bullet would have gone through my ballistic vest, through me, and through the vest again as it exited.' Sure would have. Indicating that any weapon is dangerous --even one hundred year old designs -- when they're in the wrong hands. Wonder what that woman would have thought had she seen that clip? Hmmmmmmmmmm??!!??!

I can "sprayfire" from the hip using a gun with a "conventional" stock and hit approximately near an intended target, than with the AR and AK with a pistol grip and seperate shoulder stock in line with the axis of the bore. The ergonomics of the AK and AR are more for the aimed or pointed from the shoulder shooting style, than "spraying from the hip" (a catch phrase evidently picked up from one of the usual suspects, Brady, Sugarmann or Tom Diaz.) If you want to shoot low and miss, by all means sprayfire from the hip with a pistol grip long gun. When I shoot my son's AR or my AK, it is from the shoulder or held at eye level, never from the hip.

W L Johnson,

Wow and I thought it was Germany that came out with the first assualt rifle.

Carl, I agree. I think " spray firing from the hip" would be easier with a conventional stock instead of a pistol grip.

She has many other videos on gun control, some of which have ratings enabled. Good news: there's about 100 times more thumbs downs than thumbs ups.

A combination of random phrases tied together. In WWI, there WAS a search for a weapon, portable by a single man while crossing the "no-man's land" between trench lines. The U.S. actually developed TWO. One was the Model 1918 Browning Automatic Rifle (BAR), and the other was the Pederson Device for the Model 1903 Springfield Rifle. Of the two, the BAR was capable of automatic fire from a 20 round magazine. The Pederson Device used a sub-caliber round, and was fired through the 1903 by the bolt action. It had an expanded capacity, enabling the operator to provide "suppressive fire" while advancing. Neither was ever called an "Assault Weapon".

The "fire from the hip" was taught to BAR gunners for decades. It was to keep the enemy's away from being able to have a stable support to return fire from. Suppressive fire, as opposed to aimed fire. That is NOT, even today, a hall-mark of the Assault Rifle.

It was called "fire and maneuver" warfare. The weapons used were all full-caliber rifles, or pistol-caliber sub-machineguns. The "Assault Rifle" in reality was the invention of the febrile minds of anti-gunners. It is used in place of actual Models of weapons. The person, most of whom know nothing of actual guns or ballistics, simply inserts "assault rifle", or "assault pistol" in place of actual information.

From what I've seen, there can NEVER be a definition, as that would fix it in people's minds. This removes the "one-size-fits-all" title. Look around, if the definitions used today were any more plastic, they'd be Glocks.

What they did was bring the idea back in a more modern form.

Problem is at what point is a rifle an "assault rifle", it a pretty lose term. All of mine must be defective, they've never assaulted anyone.

The Pedersen was actually semi-auto like a pistol.

One interesing item is that the web belts for BAR gunners actually contained a "pocket" beside the buckle for the BAR's butt stock. This allowed--supposedly--the recoil of the weapon to be managed while firing from the hip.

Now that you mention it, NONE of my firearms have assaulted anyone!

I should probably file lawsuits against all the manufacturers of my arms as they are obviously ALL defective...

And oh BTW we disable the comments because we love to lie to all you and know the pro gunners will set us striaght :)

2:20 they are designed to spray fire? lol hold up! you are saying guns spray fire! woah! oh BTW ITS SEMI AUTO.....

Yeah I got in an argument with someone about my AR recently. They were quick to point out that it would be easy to convert it to an illegal Semi-Auto which was a good reason it should be banned.

I told him, it would be easier for me to remove my sock put it into my gas tank light it and roll the truck and 20+ gallons of gas in it into the front of Walgreens. So my truck can be easily converted to a Weapon of mass destruction. Perhaps all cars are really "Assault Weapons" then and should be banned. Oh wait Anti's drive cars, we can't ban them.

@gouranga I like that. Thats my point cars are just as dangerous as a gun. No need to ban them.

can I use that for my sig :p ?
