Assembled My First Upper: Mistakes and Lessons Learned

I need to try the 193 load with a scope. I tested it with several charges with the scope from my DMR, the rezeroed the scope on the DMR. I ran three more with the best charge through the new rifle but used the iron sights. I can’t shoot iron sights well enough to tell how it did without specialized targets, which I didn’t have at the time. So those three were a function check and they grouped ok but I’m sure they’d do better with a scope.

I have only had one upper that was thermal fit tight. I put the barrel in the freezer and a few hours later put the receiver in the oven on 300. The barrel slid right in with no pounding or fussing. And the upgraded trigger from psa is pretty good for the money. I like to use those as a baseline trigger now.

I don’t really have any need to do it but I kinda want to try again to see if I can get it to work better. I still want to build an actual 18” or 20” SPR upper so that may be the time to try.
