10 inches, 12 inches? Just curious if there was some accepted length or such.

Nope

30.3cm is where a blade stops being a knife and becomes a wakizashi and that's generally become the "standard" for makers.

I'd say 14" and over.Yup 14" and over. I have up to 13" Bowies and 'picks up to that size and the are big knives IMHO. At 14" even slimmer blades get short swordish...

Expressed in OAL, longer than about 17" is a short sword or other non-knife blade. (Machetes, for instance, aren't "swords" but are definitely longer than knives.)
I think the RTAK II, at over 16" OAL, makes the point. You can see it here next to the Camp Defender 2, which has just under a 9" blade.

This is good info- thanks. Was asking cause I just got a bowie with 13" blade, overall length of 20". It's like holding a sword :)
