Other than for the ability to compete in a "hosted" organized event. Is there really any other benefit of joining these organizations?

The NSSA (skeet) used to offer gun insurance at very resonable rates to it's members, but other than that.... A few discounts here and there but I never really saw the benefit unless you were shooting sanctioned events.

If you want to compete, mandatory. Otherwise, not much advantage.
