ATF investigating Virginia Democrat Congressional Candidate

Maybe the country will learn how easy it is to fall victim to one of the 25,000+ gun laws in this country. Make a point by sawing off the barrel of a rifle, accidentally create a untaxed NFA short barreled rifle, face a 10 year sentence and a $250,000 fine. No excuse, you are required to know and understand all of the laws on the books.

Yup, sounds reasonable.

As a Virginian, I’m offended by all of the leftist who have invaded our great state. So I hope she gets the maximum penalty. As others have said, I suspect the opposite will happen and she’ll get a slap on the wrist.

The only good thing is that the federal Eastern District ov Virginia Court has historically been very conservative. So here’s hoping she gets a good ol boy judge!

Liberals love to make laws and then pretend they don't apply to them. I'm all for prosecuting this moron but at the same time...

It's "interesting" that the Feds are indicting her for something that I don't think should be illegal, but the Feds knew all about Mr. Cruz and his violent psycho ways and did NOTHING to stop him from shooting up a school.

So what is the wanted outcome here?
She gets slapped on the wrist; case law weakens the criminal penalty of violating the NFA, but NFA remains in tact.
She gets bar'd and tar'd as a high profile example, and the NFA remains in tact.

Neither helps us to get the NFA repealed, but the one thing that would make us feel vindicated would serve to make future challenges to the NFA harder.

OK so for those of us in Virginia who can raise a stink if it'll help, what do you suggest we do?

I don't know about others, but I've had enough with being quite while our enemies continue to destroy us.

In one of the articles a person commented that 'all she did was make an AR pistol which is legal'....of course I had to correct her with the 'once a rifle, always a rifle' part of the law and it was hilarious how many people tried to accuse me of 'technobabble' and 'fact shaming' her. That's their latest ploy when they don't actually know anything about what they're saying....if you DO....you shouldn't say anything to them because it makes them feel bad. Have we really fallen this far?

An AR pistol can't have a shoulder stock and the rifle in question still has the shoulder stock on it. Even if converting to a pistol was a possibility that did not happen here.

No.

Probably quietly goes away, nothing happens to her, and you never hear about it again.

I'm not a resident there, but honestly when people go out of there way to get attention (especially the type of grandstanding this lady was doing) and break the law, the full weight of prosecution should be brought upon them. Technical violation, didn't know, whatever her excuse does not matter. Her intention was to build support for new laws to ban and restrict guns, so why wouldn't she and all the public demand full enforcement of our current gun laws on everyone including herself? Anything less is pure hypocrisy.

As I recall, and I'm a little hazy on it, there was some time ago in DC some congress critter was doing a sound bite holding magazines which were illegal there and I don't think anything ever became of it. At least I never heard of it again.

By the time she may be indicted, plead out, and sentenced, it will be such old news the media probably won't even pick up on it.

A news reporter for NBC did that a couple years ago while debating Wayne LaPierre in DC on television. The local police asked for a warrant however the DA declined to pursue it. There was a couple days of panic on the part of the reporter and network when people pointed out the crime, but next news cycle swept that away.

The way politics work, if this lady does get prosecuted it will probably be covered as an example of a political rival (local or maybe Trump/Sessions) picking on her. If anything it may boost her standing and bring in contribution dollars.

If it was me, wait. If it turns out she gets a pittance of a sentencing then we have a great example to point to when people scream "WE NEED MORE LAWS DO SOMETHING!" We can calmly "Here is a case where the existing laws weren't enforced, how about we enforce those first before we add more?"

If she gets the full sentence then we can point out how difficult it is to keep track of all the existing laws and how strict they already are.

I'd be pushing for the latter outcome but that might be a little bit because of spite for this whole charade following Parkland.

No sir, the next one is first week in April . Feds dont share much with the locals once they get involved.
She has engaged a big time lawyer, and the news pukes have moved on to other stoies.
My best guess is a plea deal with no time but a stained record, making her a convicted felon, a prohibited person, and loss of voting rights.
If she loses voting rights, does she also lose the right to run for or hold office?

This just made my day.

This highlights part of the problem with these stupid anti gun Democrats. They don't understand guns in general or the gun laws already on the books

I'd be shocked if this leads to anything.

Only time will tell and there's not much point in talking about it until then since the POV is "no problem", "good for her", "hope she gets charged", or "hope she's convicted".
