Well of course marijuana users shouldn't have guns... They'll use them to kill and rob, just to fuel their addiction. And then when the marijuana becomes too weak for them, they'll use more guns to rob for the Cocaine and Meth that the marijuana lead them into!

/sarcasm.

What a bunch of idiots.

Mary-jane usage makes you a prohibited person.
*Shrugs* Its hard to change the laws on the books. (NFA anyone?)
I dont smoke, hate the smell.

But their entire argument becomes invalid when you point out that people can get just as 'high' with prescription drugs.
Oh well, haters gonna hate.

Dave Workman Dunno if anybody here has seen this (if you're an FFL you have but the ATF has sent out a letter reminding gun dealers that they can't sell to dope smokers, even medical marijuana users.

I did my column on this today. I expect this one to stir a bit of debate out there on the forums.

ATF letter to FFLs makes it clear: No guns for pot users

ATF didn't say "no"...they're just the messenger.
Congress said NO when they passed laws making marijuana a controlled substance.

This is nothing new. This has been Federal law for y...e...a...r...s.

But the twist here is for those who use marijuana for medicinal purposes. There was a case not long ago (Oregon?) of a woman having trouble with (was it renewing?) her CCW, because she uses medical marijuana.

This is where the federal and state laws get all akimbo, so I suppose ATF wanted to make sure everyone knows that only evil people people use drugs, and only really evil people want guns and drugs together.

I know this is one of the places where Federal law "trumps" State law, but I won't get into that discussion here just yet.

I could have sworn that Obama promised that medical marijuana users would no longer be attacked by the federal government, looks like that was another lie.

Once again the state's rights are being stepped over by the federal government. You really would think that after having several quasi-legal operations go belly-up, they would just shut-up for a little while.

Notice, you never see the Feds running to the aid of gun owners when the states take away their 2nd ammendement rights? However, they never miss a chance to to overstep a state law that disallows it.

What Dogtown Tom said.

Next if you drink alcohol your also going to be banned. Being under the influence goes both ways no? I know about 3 drunks and they have permits and a few others that also smoke marijuana that also have permits. Are they a threat? Not that I've seen. What about people that are on medication prescriptions that when tooken are considered under the influence?

Has the government conducted tests on all these subjects?
I've never heard of someone losing their family because of marijuana use. On the other hand I've seen plenty lose their families , jobs everything due to prescription pill abuse and alcoholism.

What I don't see is how Fed. Law, 18 USC 922 (g)(3), ("an unlawful user of [...] any controlled substance...") matches the profile of a citizen who legally under their state law uses medical marijuana.

Doesn't that stuff wear off a little while after they smoke it? If somebody relaxes with a joint after work one evening, will they not be straight and sober 12 hours later when they leave the house the next morning?

I like alcohol and I own firearms.
I'm pretty sure their have been more incidents involving alcohol with firearms than marijuana.
Never smoked the stuff, but I do know that the people who do smoke it aren't exactly the type we are scared of.

I know the government does say that if you are an ( unlawful) user of marijuana you can't have a permit. But is there government studies showing that if you do that you are a threat of some kind. Is there such a study?

Most people that I know usually run into the law because of alcohol related incidents.

What if the next question on a gun form asked you " Do you abuse alcohol?" I'm pretty sure that whoever has a permit and smokes marijuana doesn't say yes to the do you unlawfully smoke marijuana.

Most people who drink do not "abuse" alcohol, they just use it in moderation to relax. I would be willing to wager that most people who use pot don't abuse it either. I think that the government knows that moderate pot use is harmless and they are just looking to deny the Second Amendment rights of as many categories and classifications of people as possible.
