Spearheaded by R members of the NM legislature John Block and Stefani Lord. Both Langley Outdoors and G&G have reported on this and have links posted to suggested text you can send to your own reps, as well as where to send, to help make this happen.

As much as I would like to see this come to pass, with the strangle hold that the party of the Governor has on this state it has as much chance of happening as a snow ball in Roswell surviving a July afternoon.
Never say never. Some Dems and even prominent anti's (including little Davey Hogg!) have publicly criticized Grisham. All you have to lose is a few minutes of your time to send messages to your relevant legislative folks.

Good on them!

But...like all things political that I have any feelings about, I'll believe it when I see it.

ALSO..."impeached" is a process, not a conclusion/conviciton. A person can be impeached, but not convicted.

Section 35 of the NM constitution governs this and states:

"The sole power of impeachment shall be vested in the house of representatives, and a concurrence of a majority of all the members elected shall be necessary to the proper exercise thereof. All impeachments shall be tried by the senate. When sitting for that purpose the senators shall be under oath or affirmation to do justice according to the law and the evidence. When the governor or lieutenant governor is on trial, the chief justice of the supreme court shall preside. No person shall be convicted without the concurrence of two-thirds of the senators elected."

The NM House of Representatives has 70 members. It therefore takes 36 minimum to consttute a majority. This is a hard number, because it says "majority of all the members elected". Not a quorum.

Likewise with respect to the 2/3 of the senators elected: this requires a minimum of 28 senators to convict, as there are 42 state senators.

The division for both houses are as follows:

House: 45 Democrat, 25 Republican.

Senate: 27 Democrat, 14 Republican, 1 Vacant.

Assuming all 25 House Republicans vote for impeachment, there are going to have to be 11 Democrats also on board for this in order for the governor to actually be called "impeached".

Assuming all 14 Senate Republicans likewise vote for conviction during the trial, an additional 14 Democrats will likewise have to go along with this to obtain a conviction for this impeachment. Either way it goes once it reaches the Senate, however, the governor will have been "impeached" simply by the fact that the House voted for impeachment and presented this to the Senate for trial.

SO...the question is: How many Democrats are REALLY that upset enough about this overreach to actually take the steps required for impeachment?

I'm thinking we'll see some more colors come out in the wash over this.

David Hogg is an idiot and his opinion on this matter, either way, counts for squat. At best he's a tool for the Left and nothing more. As such, he carries absolutely no weight, political or otherwise, on this.

No need for me to contact my legislators. They have all been against her since she took office.

Sistema 1927 summed this up very well. I haven't dug deep but I belive it can only happen during a regular legislative session so that puts it to next year. The governor is the only one that can call a special session. Fat Bill Richardson got the legislator to set things up so the governor is almost a dictator during his tenure as governor.

I am placing no trust in any of the Democrats as I have seen them blow hot air and bluster until it comes time to vote before almost all forget what they have said and vote the party line. My hope is that this results in many being replaced in the next election by others that have some integrity but I am not holding my breath waiting for it to happen.

Yes, he is an idiot, but he is maybe the best-known anti, so for him to oppose it gives the Dems in the legislature some cover.

I grew up in West Texas not far from the New Mexico border and have been there hundreds of times as my Dad serviced a lot of oil rigs in the 70s and 80s there. Plus I have traveled through there at least a couple of times a year for 30 years going to my wife's family home in Delta, CO. It's a beautiful place to drive though with abundant wildlife but for the life of me I have never understood why the Democrats have had such a lock on the place for so long.

Simple explanation. Santa Fe, Albuquerque, Bernillio, and down the Rio Grande Corridor though a couple of other towns and now Los Cruces is where the votes to keep them in power come from. Now the Democrats have done just what they bragged that they would do before the last census. They have gerrymandered the voting districts to insure the Republicans won't be elected. Three groups present a plan. The governor, the legislature, and a so call indepenant group is appointed, Guess whose plan was chosen by the legislature to pass. The very worst one presented by the governor and of course she signed it the minute it hit her desk. A law suit was immediately filed. So far it is moribund. The state supreme court is now made up of five Democrats although there was only one republican member before the last election so nothing has really changed. They will get around to it-----someday.

Our state senator recently retired. By law each county he serves, three in this case, names a replacement and the governor appoints one of those to fill the remainder of the term. Two counties named the same person. The other a different one. Guess which the guv chose. This state should be renamed New Kali Far East. The one not chosen said he knew he would not be chosen as he and shorty have butted heads. The other is a kind of go along to get along type of person.

I moved here in late 1956. The senate has always been controlled by Democrats. Once in a great while republicans gain control of the house. What happens? The Senate will do nothing on what the republican house sends them and the stalemate continues. Things only got really bad with the election of the want to be dictator we have now and a bunch of ultra liberal legislators to help her. I was quite surprised when an ultra liberal beat John Arthur Smith from Deming, the only senator serving that had a grasp of how a budget works. He was head of the Senate finance committee and had earned the name of Mr. No because he would not approve some of the hair brained spending that others wanted and he had to go by hook or crook I suspect crook as it has happened before.

Our gun laws were very good up until our Queen took over but now they are being whittled on rather seriously.
