Just wanted to pass this along to everyone. On November 8-9, in preparation for Veteran's Day, the Texas Military Forces Museum at Camp Mabry will be holding a live action recreation of an assault on a WWII German strongpoint, along with tanks in action and firing demonstrations of WWII small arms. It is free admission and free parking.

Also, in commemoration of the 65th anniversary of the Salerno invasion, there will be a demonstration October 18th at Camp Swift:
Sat. 18 October 2008
10:00 a.m. TXNG Air Assault Demonstration
1:00 p.m. TXNG Obstacle Course Demonstration
3:00 p.m. BATTLE REENACTMENT
See a dramatic recreation of the desperate battle to hold the first Allied beachhead in Europe. Vehicles committed to this event include 10 jeeps; 2 Bren gun carriers, 1 CCKW, 2 Kubelwagens, 1 motorcycle with sidecar, 1 x 1941 truck (German)

Go to the website, and they have all the information there. I would suggest that, rather than posting it, so that you will have the most up-to-date info.

Fun event.

The museum features include WW2 German tank destroyer, a restored kublewagon, allied and German half tracks. Maxim machine gun, a Vickers, BAR , I would guess over 100 historical military swords, knives and firearms. Also some pristine horse Cav stuff including a machine gun carriage.

Around the back of the building there is a display of 8 or 9 field guns dating back to pre ww1. French, German, American vintage.

There is also an impressive display of American tanks and armored vehicles. Close to 20 pieces.

Even if you can't make the event the museum is worth checking out.
