I took my brand spanking new AO M1 Carbine out to the range this morning, purchased just a few weeks ago for BAG day. A few reports talk of these being jamomatics out of the box so I made a point to disassemble, clean and lube it well. It was almost entirely satisfactory, no failure to ejects and only a couple of failures to feed fully. In other words the round was stripped off the magazine and in the chamber but the bolt had not quite closed on it ... by maybe 1/4 of an inch. A trigger pull would fail to fire the round (good thing there) but when I noticed it in time a light tap on the op handle would complete the chambering and the rifle would go bang.

The literature says it's a two stage trigger but mine is a fairly stout single stage ... decidely not as nice as the Garand or any other of my rifles. Perhaps this trigger pull is lawyer designed.
It was accurate as I can be with iron sights but I really wasn't trying to test out that aspect, this was mainly a function test.

It's an easy and fun gun to shoot, short and lightweight, barely noticable recoil, it's most likely plenty accurate. I'm not real happy with the trigger pull and may investigate some improvement. I hope the FTFs ... 3 in about 60 or 70 rounds ... work themselves out as the gun breaks in.

Color me conditionally satisfied.

Price of M1

I paid somewhere around $570 with tax. These are hard to find but I came across one at a dealer table at a gun show.
