anyone shop the new avon ohio cabelas. I went there the other day to look at reloading stuff and no powder, primers, etc. I asked the guy behind the counter and he said its in the "reloading aisle" I only seen 1lbs jugs behind the gun counter but nothing good.

i couldn't get anyone to stop and help me and everyone sent me to guns.

Went there for the first time a week or two ago. Terrible experience. The workers knew nothing about reloading and they only had a few different powders and primers that were behind the counter. If your anywhere near Ashland Ohio the Fin Feather Fur is my go too. Usually have a decent selection of powders and every time I go there they have one kind of powder parked down to 17-18$ bucks a pound.

You can't go to Cabelas expecting to get answers. The employees typically don't know anything about the products they sell. This is especially true when it comes to reloading.

I use Cabelas for convenience and when I need something quickly and don't want to wait.

we must be neighbors than. I love Fin but its a little bit of a drive for me. cabelas is 10min away and fin 35min away. i have been in cabelas about 3 times so far and each time i hate it more and more. no one knows what they are doing with anything. its like everyone that is shopping there and i use that term loosely is acting like they are at cedar point or something. i watch about 15 people last night stand at the archery range just to shoot bows and x bows and put them back like its a game or something.

back to the reloading--i figured they would have a good selection and being close i could get some stuff but i don't think ill go back.

Retail store workers generally are not hired because of their expert topical knowledge, but hired to take care of the product displays, serve the customers (some are better at this than others), and to sell the products that they are told to push.

Never be surprised that a retail sales clerk doesn't know what they're talking about. It's not their job. It IS their job to get you to the product aisle you want. You just got some plain ol' poor customer service at your Cabela's, and that is a common complaint there..

Think of it this way, if they were experts in guns and reloading, they would probably have a better paying job in that field.

Been there twice, second time, yesterday.
Found some ammo I like both times, and will be going back.
There is a fin, feather, fur in Berea, a lot closer to me than Ashland. So far, Cabelas has better selection and price.
Retail? Been in it 40yrs, and don't agree with the comments here.

I'm from medina county, work in Lorain county so it's convenient but I'll just wait for my off days and head to the fin in Ashland. They have a whole basement full of reloading supplies.

Sounds like you ran into a batch of unhelpful people there. Didnt that store just open? Its the weekend and they are having a big sale. There is a chance that employees there were too busy to really do anything other than say "Aisle 18'. The one that recently opened near me in Bellbrook(well, technically Centerville now) only had 15 some odd powders on the shelf. When I asked, the employee there said that due to fire code, they could only store a maximum of 20 pounds on shelves and that any extra powder was in back in powder magazines. He Then ran in back and brought me out 2 cans of 296 and 2 of lilgun :)

Went there for the night before grand opening. Unlike the Columbus store the powder and primers were behind the counter. The staff was very nice and welcoming but I have to agree not really good with the product, especially reloading components. The store itself is smaller than the Columbus store which is midsize. The staff did try hard to make the customer happy. I guess the Avon area lacks really gun savvy and hand loading savvy help. :) The store is convenient enough for us at maybe a 40 min ride and I will go back.
