Congress is working on reintroducing an assault weapons ban that specifically will ban all semi-automatic weapons that are capable of accepting a detachable magazine.

The Supreme Court has already decided in DC V. Heller any ban on an entire class of arms that's in common use for lawful purposes is unconstitutional.

Can you even pass a law that directly contradicts the Supreme Court ruling?

A complete ban including over 21 year old? I cannot see it passing and cannot see it ever being signed into law, and even though I am NOT a lawyer, I believe the US congress can pass any laws they want and the president can sign, but if it is already ruled unconstitutional by SCOTUS it will just end up in court again. That is how I believe it happens....
It would be dumb to do so, but our congress is not noted for their intelligence.
