The Honorable Charles Barkley

Montgomery County

House Delegation Chairman

222 Lowe House Office Building
Annapolis, Maryland 21401

Dear Delegate Barkley:

The Montgomery County Republican Central Committee urges our County Delegation to reconsider their legislative priorities.

Passing a fiscally responsible budget is far more important than attempting to pass even more restrictive gun control laws in Maryland. Maryland gun control laws have not reduced crime, nor have they made Marylanders any safer. Reckless spending and fiscal irresponsibility are what need to be controlled, not Maryland’s law abiding gun owners. Trying to put an assault weapons ban on Governor Ehrlich’s desk is an obvious political ploy that will not deter violent criminals, nor will it improve public safety. Governor Ehrlich’s historic election signaled the end of spend-and-tax budgets, government by credit card, and “feel-good†crime control legislation in Maryland. Our governor’s priorities are Maryland’s priorities: fiscal responsibility, transportation, education, and proven crime control programs. We respectfully suggest you put partisanship aside and make these your priorities as well. Let’s work together with our Governor to solve the pressing problems that affect Maryland and Montgomery County.

Sincerely,

Steve Abrams,

Chair, MCRP Central Committee
