Ran across this perusing the web.

Please keep in mind it's from a UK news publication, albeit is the US edition.

Surprising...well maybe not really...how many mistakes there are, or mis-statements, or unclear/misleading wording.

But at least they tried.

My thoughts exactly. Plenty of mistakes just in CT where, naturally, I looked first.

Funny, they could have found all the requisite information at www.handgunlaw.us, www.opencarry.org, and www.nra-ila.org. Who knows how many research hours went into getting that quite so "close-but-no-cigar."

Then again, the concepts under discussion seem like they'd be pretty foreign to most folks in Britain (I mean like "Shoot First Laws?" Where did they come up with THAT?). So perhaps the terms and principles were confusing to the folks putting that together.

Also there seems to be a disconnect in understanding the difference between what the law says and private policies. For example, in PA they list that colleges and universities are prohibited from carry. When you mouse-over the dot there it actually says, "Administrators MAY prohibit..." but it doesn't take into account that those restrictions don't carry any weight of law. Too complicated, I guess.

It is how most anti-gunners refer to the Castle Doctrine. It was heard a lot when the Trayvon Martin incident was in the headlines.

Oh. Well that's pretty dumb. Even "stand your ground" is a kind of inane way to describe them..."shoot first" is just nonsensical.

I shared this as a quick visual indicator of gun friendly states, and I think it does that job well. I realize there is some small incorrect data points, and their wording is horrendous, but I still think it warrants a quick look....especially when you view it according to state populations.

Unfortunately the colors are misleading from a glance as well. Tying the color red to concealed carry permits is inappropriate in my opinion. Red should signify restrictions, not freedoms.

It may have something to do with the fact the Republicans (red) tend to support gun rights and Democrats (blue) do not. Of course, from a British prospective the idea that someone could lawfully carry a handgun while going about their business is pretty shocking, considering even their police are often denied such firearms.

I find that most of the things said by the anti-gun crowd are pretty dumb and nonsensical. Doesn't seem to stop them though.
