I believe I saw a news report today that indicated today that after declaring a State of Emergency last year - in light of the thousands crossing the Mexican border each night - the Governor of Arizona has today mobilized certain elements of the Arizona National Guard to patrol and secure the southern border.

We all (well, most of us) know this has been too long in coming.

It'll be interesting to see how the fedgov reacts.

Sounds like an opportunity for a joint NH-AZ National Guard security mission! I'd volunteer for a 2-4 week mission. Unfortunately I don't think the Department of the Army would authorize the pay.

Yeah, I read something about that too-- probably on Freerepublic.com. I haven't seen anything else since though. I imagine the feds made a phone call to the Governor 'suggesting' a different course. The MSM would have been all over it if it had ever gone beyond what little we've heard so far.

Good!!! Maybe Bill Richardson will put his money where his mouth is and send the NM Guard too. NM has a major problem as well.

If that hasn't already happened, it's about what I'd guess would happen next.

Probably would/has gone something like:

"You're Southern border is a Fedgov issue, not a state one. You'll probably want to call off the NG. After all, we're all (*snicker*) on the same team here now, aren't we?"

It probably went something like this:

Fed: You really need to call back you Nat. Gaurd, the southern border is a Federal issue.
Gov: But there are thousands of uncontrolled border crossings.
Fed: There is no problem with your border, if there were a problem don't you think we would have solved it for you? We are the Real Government after all.
Gov: But...but....
Fed: Say, wouldn't it be nice if you got your federal highway funding sometime this decade?:neener:

In Texas.....the Gov.....

called up some NG to provide communications between the different law enforcement depts along the border. Maybe the "NG camel nose under the tent" will do some good later on.....chris3

The governer in AZ has done absolutly nothing to protect our borders since she was elected into office. In fact, she has tried blocking attempts to resolve the issues down there. When she declared the border a state of national emergency, I felt it was a politcal move to cover her a$$ and look like she actually cared. As far as I know, no national guard troops has been moved down there. This happened quite a few months ago. It was all a political move to make her look like the hero and Bush look even worse.

Surely you didn't expect anything more of a representative of the Democratic (sic) party? It's all press releases and postures with that bunch, while welcoming the illegal alien vote with open arms.

A big +1. The AZ gov is no friend of ours. Everything she (and I use the word "she" loosely) does is calculated to get herself re-elected. She won't guard the border and she won't remove state services from those here illegally. Phoenix remains a sanctuary city.

Isn't that what NG is supose to do? Protection of the state, and when called upon, the country. Since we're getting invaded by Mexicans, they should've been mobilized long long ago.
