Between black coffee, and shiftn' gears
Stand up, put your hand over your heart and face Texas.

So put me on a highway
And show me a sign
And take it to the limit one more time

Eagles Take It To The Limit

I've been up to something - again.

Shooting moving and stationary targets from the bed of a moving truck. Just picture Skeet with a Pickup, mixed with Teddettes,(Southern for a cardboard box cut up and whatever shape) toss a few stick-persons (stick in ground, with a coffee can atop, don't overthink this).

Needed something else - different, you know how it goes. So the trash can had all them cans from Energy drinks, Rockstar[tm] and such, you know the ones with B-Complex, vitamins, minerals and other big words.

"I hate when the boy gets that look and just starts in on something".

" I don't know, I kind of like it, keeps one from getting in rut, complacent, predictable,and..."

"You been have not been around him that long, still real scary to hear you talk like that".

Think real tall tether ball poles, cable atop attached to each. Tie a piece of 30# fishing line to this cable and a Energy drink can filled with water.

Now if you tie another piece of fishing line, to the mainline, and this line is first headed downrange, the takes a left around something, then back in a safe spot to "let go" then you can safely pull the can back, and when released, it swings toward you. Tuellerette drill.

"You should have seen the boy having that tennis ball machine tossing tennis balls at 'em and shooting them. The best part - he ran out of ammo, and just started whacking them with the stock of the shotgun, make a helluva a Olympic Event I say".

Okay B-Complex swings okay from "this view". Looks okay from the bed of truck.

" I need a driver please!"

"Sometimes the boy just jumps in with both feet plumb up to his eyeballs, you drive, I gotta see this...oh and crank up the radio, he likes to shoot to good tunes, don't forget".

:D Lee, I sure do appreciate the Brenneke suggestion :D

"Son of a gun! Hang on...15 steps, and that Rockstar is in real poor health"

"Oh my, the boy wants to do it again...can't leave well enough alone, quit while ahead..."

"You missed that one"
"Did not"
"Did too"
"Did not, it is not on the fishing line"
"Maybe it was not tied on good?"
"It was"
"Was not"

Seems there was about 4" of fishing line still tied to the Rockstar can, the mainline "cut', Brenneke's cut line.
Best figured, angle of flight can and line, very very faint mark which would indicate tip top of can ever so slightly grazed. ;)

"Son of a gun, you can't hit a moving target with a slug, especially from a moving vehicle".

"Been reading the Internet again have you? Here, ya'll play with it with birdshot, just stand about here, you might need to shoot a Tullerette some day"

Just a bone stock Old 870 Wingmaster, fixed IC barrel.

Some folks overthink stuff, sometimes you just need to shoot the durn thing! ;)

There are stars in the Southern sky
And if ever you decide
You should go
There is a taste of time sweetened honey

Well, the hoity-toity English professor types would call it "stream of consciousness." Around here, it's just Steve, talking shotgun style.

Steve's not high on drugs, he's high on the smell of gunpowder. :D Pass the freshly fired paper Federal hulls please, I need a good sniff. ;) If you don't know what they smell like you have missed one of the best perfumes there is, If I could get that bottled and give it to my wife.... :scrutiny: ;)

One of mine called it "enlightenment".

I call it "being real curious and figuring stuff out - and thinking out the box".

Understand, I don't have anything against new technologies, or anything. I do have a real big thing about buying skill and targets, if you do not have all the bells , whistles and curb feelers you cannot shoot.

Sorry man, that dog won't hunt with me.

Now I am told for instance Awerbuck has folks shoot the Tueller with a shotgun, also has students while moving shoot 2 COM and 1 to the head ( 3x5" index card on a teddy for the head). Correct me if I am wrong.

Funny how for umpteen years folks took care of matters with bone stock firearms such as Gov't model of 1911, BHPs, M&P Revolvers and shotguns, including Military and Police Folks. Funny how the Military still uses folks shooting moving targets,(including /not limited to skeet) folks shooting from moving vehicles and folks shooting moving targets from moving vehicles.

I played the clay games and other stuff, just my mentors had me do other stuff as well in the event something serious come up. Maybe I am out hunting with a bone stock shotgun and I have to take care of something, or I am in fear of my safety.

CAS folks do not get laughed at for their skills using "antiquated" guns at targets that replicate serious matters.

I hit the target with a bone stock single shot .410 with slugs as well, a number of times, both while in moving truck and stationary on the ground.

WE / my kind, back in the day understood something akin to NOLA may crop up. NO LEO, NO Military, and folks had to do for themselves. Plenty of bone stock shotguns and other platforms folks have, and no reason these cannot still work...been doing it for sometime now anyways.

We did impromtu training, impromptu scenerios, one was the local law station being taken over / firebombed and the guns too.

I was taught some matters by odd methods. Right off - the beads were removed from shotguns, and the 1911 and Model 10 did not have sights either.

I get older and see folks getting "programmed" to shoot , be it hearing a buzzer, calling for a bird, or listening for the sound of a trap to start a swing - when the machines came out silent, some shotgunners were really goofed up, missed birds.

Instead of watching for the bird, and having trained proper, they were "cheating" to "buy that bird". Same folks could not hunt live birds worth a flip either...no noise, and the birds did not "fly the same speed and angles" as on a range.

Gun has to run - shooter has to know how to shoot.

Then one can go from this basic idea more forward and as complicated as they choose.

I figure I do my part putting B-Complex [Brenneke]and Minerals [lead, copper, nickel] downrange quickly, and accuratly - I have a better chance of staying healthy.

Go out and actually pattern/ shoot for groups your shotguns. Get training/ lessons. BA/UU/ R. I do not care if skeet, trap, 5 stand, Sporting clays ...or shooting tin cans while moving laterally.

You gotta do it - you cannot buy it, or wish it - this shooting stuff.

Good shooters are made - not born

Nothing wrong in having a little fun while you at it though...:D
