So my daughter was born about five weeks ago and she was telling me that I should go ahead and purchase her rifle that she will learn to shoot with in three or four years. She also said make sure to break it in for her and make sure it still shoots until she can do it herself. What should she get? I kind of had an eye on the Henry lever .22's. Oh, and do you think Mom will buy all this?:D

I started my son out about a month after he turned two years old. I used a Henry Mini-Bolt. It's a single shot bolt action very similar in size to the Crickett or Chipmunk. It wasn't until this year, he is five now, that he has been able to really shoulder it properly due to it's size, and he is tall/has long arms for his age. The levers will probably be to long for her for quite a while. He has a Henry lever 17 HMR that I got him for Christmas. Still too long for him, but he does good at the bench with sand bags and he will grow into it. He also likes my 10-22 really well, so I have been thinking about a youth model. Took him shooting today. He shot the 243 that I got him for Pre-school graduation for the first time. He had a blast. The recoil didn't bother him.

You will need to start with something small that will fit her size. Just keep in mind that a small gun will be like shoes and clothes, she will outgrow it quickly.

You have a 5 week old that is talking and understanding the concept of a firearm, practice and time?

They grow up so fast.

EDIT: I'm a dork. Sorry. It's late and I missed the joke completly.

i have a daughter that just turned 5 months old...she has had her own rifle since the day she was born.
its not a hand-me-down, but a pink crickett purchased for her on her birthday!!
while my wife and daughter took their first nap together, i went to the local gander mountain instead of heading home to take a shower and grab a change of clothes like i was supposed to.
but, i figured that this was a once in a lifetime chance to give her a great story about her first firearm.

congrats on your new addition to your family!!

Crickett 22 with Hot pink laminated stock

Thats what I bought my newborn baby girl. She reallys seems to like it and the pink color has really kept me and my son from wanting to shoot it. At almost 14 months she still isnt quite big enough to shoot it yet, but boy does she like to go in the gun room and look at it and all the pretty and shiny bullets

What clarence222 said. No matter what you do to try to prevent it, young females are utterly captivated by the color pink. Whoever thought of making pink stocks for a youth rifle was an absolute GENIUS. I've seen more 6-13 year old girls at the range with those things....

I must have failed. I haven't purchased my 9 month old daughter her pink cricket yet. Was planning on waiting till it was time and taking her to the gun store to have her "buy" it.

Course never know those pink crickets might get banned for some funky stupid reason like "the color pink makes people think its a toy". So maybe I should get one post haste instead of waiting.

Mine's due in mid-September. Saw a pink .22LR single-shot at Gander Mountain.. didn't catch the make.. think it would fit in nicely with the pile of other "baby girl" stuff from two showers sitting in one corner of my house...

Edit: Just saw the other posts.. is that little rifle the "Cricket" mentioned here..?

Most likely it is, as GM carries the brand. There are other youth rifles made in pink now, though. I saw a NICE 10/22 in a laminated pink and gray stock the other day, dunno if it was actually a factory Ruger stock though.

Not a daughter. I have a niece though. She isn't quite one yet, but I've had a Davey Crickett .22lr rifle with a pink laminate stock and a scope in my closet since she was about 5 days old. She was early it was supposed to be delivered before she was born.
