"Baby on Board" Sticker

I think my NRA, FOP, and "Don't Tread On Me" stickers in the back window of my F250 actually may have convinced an aggressively tailgating work-crew truck to back off a few days ago. If I could find a yellow "Homicidal Maniac On Board" placard I'd probably hang it in the back window too...

My wife and I were discussing the "Baby on Board" stickers while driving the other night, and she raised an interesting point: could it make the people driving the car with the sticker more of a target because the hands of someone with a baby are inherently more "full" than someone without? Also, a parent is more likely to be concerned with the child than a material possession (i.e. keeping the thief from getting the car, purse, etc.). I had never really thought about it, but it does bring up an interesting point.
I would think that a carjacker would be less inclined to target a car that would open him up to kidnapping charges should the baby on board be inconspicously asleep unbeknownst to the carjacker. It makes more sense to approach a woman who's presumed to be alone, demand the purse and car key, and drive away.

But then again, who said these people operate on all cylinders? Hard to second guess someone stupid enough to do what they do.

Turning the basic question here on its head, so to speak- how many members here know what the sticker pictured below means? How many have ever noticed one on a vehicle in traffic?

Don't answer here and give it away- not yet.... This might be a good thing to know, for any here who don't.

Thats a good one.

If a BG was to see that he would probably decide to pick on someone else.

I thought they were originally sold as a gimmick that might alert rescue personnel to look for a small victim that might be overlooked after a crash,

I always thought they were to let the HOV police know that you really were obeying the minimum occupant rule, even if you couldn't see that 3rd (or whatever) person in the car.

The stickers are annoying, but not as annoying as the "CAUTION! Show Dogs!" stickers I used to see a lot. Like, your show dogs are worth more than my family?!? I think not! That THAT you doggone dog nut!

OK, but I found it in about 30 seconds. If I can figure it out, it ain't much of a secret. Now, the small black raven thing, that's a bit more enigmatic.

But the question is, did you know about it before you saw the picture?

And the 'raven thing' is not at all enigmatic to some of us, especially the old timers.

And don't cheat...

No, never saw it before. I figure I have no "need to know" about the raven.

Nothing classified about it (the raven, that is)- it's open source info. The man responsible for it used to occasionally refer to those who flew that particular flag as "the cognoscenti," but some other folks claimed to find him overbearing and pedantic. I always thought he had pretty high personal standards, and in the fashion of an older generation some younger folks defined that level of confidence and self assurance as prickliness. What little dealings I ever had with him (by correspondence, never unfortunately in person) I always found him to be a scholar and a gentleman who absolutely knew his own mind on any subject one cared to raise.

The sign will not make you more of a target. A thief who doesn’t want the complications of a child may turn away. But usually they are looking for a specific vehicle, and if your driving one, they will try and get it regardless of if you have a child on board or not. Clearly, they don’t want the child. But they are not usually deterred by one being present. Sadly, this sometimes has horrendous results.

"Off topic but I think I heard that the original "baby on board" stickers were pulled because they looked too much like hazardous material placards."

The resemblance is not accidental: dirty diapers contain hazardous material.

IMHO, don't put anything on your vehicle to draw anyone's attention.

Stay as ''Grey'' as possible.

First of all, do you want a driver that's close enough to you to be watching the road, or to be trying to read the fine print of the sticker's on your vehicle? I want them to have their eyes on the road and ( not me ).

Gun sticker's of any kind can allow the BG to follow you home and mark your residence for a robbery ( or worse ). We have had numerous residents followed home from local supermarkets to get robbed at gunpoint while unloading there vehicles at their homes.

The way our economy is headed, people are only going to become more desperate, and the criminals even more active. So my family will remain as ''Grey'' as possible.

I used to live in Austin. I witnessed a bicyclist rear end a car going downhill. He misjudged his brakes but wasn't hurt.

I read in a book for traffic tickets that it is better to have no stickers including law enforcement stickers to lessen the chance of a ticket. It's less info and bias to strangers.

A buddy of mine had someone rear end him because of a "God Bless John Wayne" sticker.

I saw a new van that had the rear end / tail light smashed in. It's bumped had a sticker that read ''Hope'' Obama.

Had to laugh at that one.

Why give away personal information for free. You'll never know what it will be used for. Don't try to guess what other will do with it, there's no way of considering every possible abuse, so the simple solution is to deny others acess to it. Once it is in the public domain you lost control over it.
Just keep your car sticker free and keep them guessing. :neener:

Oh yeah...any 'Baby on Board' Stickers should always have an image of 'Bat Boy'.

This clears up any 'hands full' or other matters.

'Bat Boy' could bite, too...and most BGs know this.

I have never run any stickers of any sort, personally.

The closest thing I run, is on the rear, and is an old, chrome plated die casting License Plate hanger, full of oxidation 'pimples', which says "Have a Nice Day".

Too...

BGs intuitively know, that a prospective mark who all on their own, already shows casual unselfconscious signs of apathy, and entropy, will gladly apply either, to them.

I have not seen one of those stickers in 20 years. They were a fad and I don't even know if you can still find one.
