Baby Shower turns violent in Springfield
SPRINGFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS (WWLP) – A baby shower got out of hand in Springfield late Saturday night, resulting in one man shot in the stomach and three other people, including a pregnant woman, beaten with a stick Police converged at 189 White Street, the reported scene of the baby shower. Springfield Police Captain Charles Arpin stated that the trouble apparently began when someone offered beer to a five-year-old girl. Arpin said the man who was shot escaped into a nearby apartment at 12 Pasadena Street. State and local police later took three people into custody in another part of the city. Antonio Santiago and Juan Valesquez are charged with attempted murder and assault on a pregnant woman. A woman also arrested in the car was just charged with the assault. The 26-year-old man who was shot in the stomach is recovering from his wound at Baystate Medical Center.

Of course, it's rather hard for law-abiding citizens in MA to get a concealed permit, and many of the most effective carry weapons are banned. :banghead:

BTW, from someone I know in the area, that's a bad section of Springfield.

It sounds like the situation went from bad to worse in a hurry. I wonder what the REAL story is. :scrutiny:

But... the first thing that popped into my head when I saw this story was...

Yo mama so tactical, she had a gunfight at your baby shower.

sorry, couldn't resist. I'm going to hell, I know.

In my circle of friends and family baby showers are attended by women, not drunken men.

ROFLMAO......Just goes to show that bad things can happen ANYWHERE and we all need to be legally armed to defend ourselves..:D

Pardon me for being a knuckle dragger extraordinaire, but why were men present at the baby shower in the first place?!?!

I wouldn't attend a baby shower unless someone *did* have a gun on me!

*shudders*

Men at baby showers??

I'm with you guys! Doesn't even have to be an official gathering. Women outnumber men by more than 3 (not 3:1, just 3), it's time to go. In a hurry.

On the serious side, this is exactly why most of us here choose to be armed. If the situation is predictably bad, use your head and stay away. This, though, is the definition of the unforseen. Shootout a baby shower? Whooda thunk it?

Well, the top drawer firearms instructors always told us to be armed and ready at all times.

Little did we suspect, huh?

This does present a new question; What size stick for pregnant women?
Biker

Obviously the poor guy was dragged there by his girlfriend/wife. After getting there he realized it was a baby shower and tried to escape. His woman then attemped to stop him by using deadly force.

Hope there was a camera..so the kid can see (years later) where he came from.

+1 for Biker. A gun to the head..or a promise of exceptional goodies! Both..actually.

Here is my guess as to what really happened:

The five year old got drunk and mistook the pregnant woman for a pinata and started whacking her with a stick. Another drunken five year took exception to his Mama getting beaten, he started shooting at stick boy and an innocent bystander got hit.

There is nothing anyone could do to persuade or force me into attending a baby or wedding shower of any type.

The male identity in this country has suffered enough.

Too many guys holding purses at the mall, going to the spa for manicures, hiding the guns they bought in fear of upsetting their wife , etc.

Knuckle dragging never goes out of style.

+1 on the what are men doing a baby shower question? I went to work on the day my wife had her baby shower. I think the only man there was my sister in laws boyfriend and in all the pictures I saw he looked pretty angry to be there.

This actually seems highly typical of every Mexican party that I ever attended growing up (hence the reason my mother didn't allow us to attend very many). Kid's parties seemed the worst. The men would get drunk and take turns grabbing the small kids, throwing them onto the back of the closest animal (goats and calfs were preferred) just to get laughs watching them get tossed off. Great fun. Most ended up with at least a shoving match and some worse than that. Certainly a culture I want to flourish in this country. Oh the memories. :barf:

although I feel compelled to point out, once an adult starts trying to get a 5 year old girl to consume alcohol, this should set off all sorts of warning signs.

Another cave man weighing in on men at a baby shower. 3 things would cause my attendance:

1. Guns as door prizes.
2. Loaded ammo instead of after dinner mints.
3. Fetus can catch spent primers at the reloading table.

Even pepper spray is illegal in MA. (Which I didn't find out until AFTER I had visited there, carrying pepper spray like a good boy scout because I don't have a non-res CCW for MA).
