Baccountry rail observation

So I noticed the underside of my backcountry rail has rails running the full length of the rail on each side about 1/16" wide, and these are the "skids" that the rail sits on when it is torqued down on my Tikka which has a flat top. I looked and you can see just a little bit of light coming through the middle of the rail, so the middle is indeed not touching. Have you ever noticed this? I wonder why they designed it this way.
