Background Checks For Ammunition Purchases

I lived in a neighboring state (CT) when that crap started and decided to get out.
As was tradition at the time, most people living in that dying industrial state (CT) would buy a house they could afford and stay in it, forever.
It took me 4 years to work it all out, but I did get out, selling a house I had lived in for 17 years, and leaving all friends and family behind.
Living in places like NY now, is like the frog in a pot of cold water sitting on the stove, for gun owners.
Getting out should be your goal, make no excuses, no matter how long it takes...

What a most excellent post!

Good on you! People are voting with their boots and suitcases. I would that tens of millions more were doing so.

Businesses are abandoning big cities not only due to over-taxation, but also for the safety of their employees. In such places, the police can't protect the people and the governments forbid the people from protecting their own selves and their families.

Let the Big Brother states go bankrupt. Let those who voted-in the control freaks go down with the ship.

Yes it's in effect now. $2.50 per transaction. Need drivers license, SS number and what your occupation is. *** do they need your occupation for? Then it gets called in to the "grey shirts" and they will call back. I,ve heard hours to days so your not going to walk out with your ammo. It's complete BS and confusion. I hope this wakes up all the other NY gun owners that said who needs assault weapons, ARs or semi autos. I'm only a hunter or target shooter. Well they just got there ammo privileges yanked too. This is a all out play to limit or stop ammo purchases in NY. I've been saying for years not to just worry about gun restrictions but also ammo and here we are. A gun without ammo is a expensive club. I hope now ALL NY gun owners get on the same page to work on a solution to shove this right back where it belongs.

If Democrats are so worried possible violence because of what person with guns and ammunition might do, why are they so eager to murder their babies and butcher their children they actually do every. single. day? Prohibition has never prohibited anyone from violating the prohibition. In fact, prohibitions literally generate violent crime. It's a crime that Democrats are fundamentally unwilling and unable to control street Democrat violence, but rather exhaust themselves religiously trying to control normal Americans who would dare to enjoy Freedom.
The real reason for the background checks is to make shooting sports as expensive and such a hassle to participate that it will make people stop shooting. Also it will stop new shooters before they start.

And every bit of it violates the Constitution. Something has to be done about this.

If background checks for ammo actually becomes a thing here in the NY I might start driving to PA to buy ammo if only to deprive the state of the funds to continue their database.
That was my thought also. For those under the tyranny of this new law, why not drive to a neighboring state and load up on ammo once or twice a year?

Joe

I'm sure that what many shooters will consider. I might buy .22RF or some shotgun shells but thats it. I I don't know if I mentioned but the type of ammo and quantity are also being taken down. This will pretty much show what firearms you have. So this is a ammo registry. At what point does a Red Flag get triggered if you buy too much, especially of certain rounds. Like 5.56/.223, 9MM, 7,62x39 ect. But the revolving door is still open to true criminals in NY.

I think importing from another state maybe a misdemeanor for a small amount, a felony for a large amount.

As far as I know there is nothing illegal about buying ammunition from one state and bringing it to another so long as the ammo is not forbidden in the state you are bringing it to. Explosive or incendiary ammo would be illegal to bring into NY state but besides that (maybe armor piercing, not sure) everything else is good to go.

If you were importing it to sell without the required paperwork you'd find yourself in some hot water, but buying ammo in another state for person use and bringing it back home is not that.

I could be wrong though. Is there a specific law you thinking of?

" I could be wrong though."
Confusion, exactly the reaction the law makers intended.
🤔

I'm sorry I should have said from another state to Ca. I did check and first offence is an infraction, 2nd is a misdemeanor.

That is terrible. I really hope NY doesn't follow suit.
Kind of brings home all that recent fluff-up about credit card coding for gun related purchases, like ammo...
That would be the way those commies could track your out-of-state ammo purchases. :what:
The dots begin to connect as the water in the pot begins to heat-up. (my post #26).
☹️

A friend of mine who lives in New York told me that he heard the state will soon require background checks for ammunition purchases and that the customer will be charged for the investigation. Anybody know how true this might be?
Just like those jack legs in New York.

All that stupid move will do is build yet ANOTHER black market for them to deal with.

There will be people trafficking in ammo just like they do guns and dope.

Some day maybe they will learn the crooks and Hood Rats don't follow the law.

Yep, and they will just add ammo to the products they sell on a street corner near you.

They don't care, again this is about more and more control of law abiding people. They want to make us subjects. Until people come to terms with what the real plan is most will remain clueless.

Reminds me of buying Sudafed for a bad cold. Had to show your ID for an OTC medicine that became a BHC medicine. With all the meth-heads out there, the powers in charge suddenly decided to go after the components to curb production, possession and use. Who is to say that idea is not already on the drawing boards of many politicians? Treat ammo like opioids. It’s a sad day in America when your government doesn’t trust you and wants to be in charge of your safety.

They don't want to be in charge of your safety. Again they want to control your life.

I believe this ammo background nonsense started 1/1/2018 in Ca. $1 if firearms are "registered", $19 if not; then its $1 after the $19 stuff. Stupid.

So what does that mean exactly? You have your great grandfathers 22 you have to pay extra if it’s not under your name?
