Ever have a day where you were embarrassed for anyone to see you shoot. I went to the range today and it was a sorry experience. I am just getting over a case of bronchitis that lasted 3 weeks and it seemed like I could not hit the bullseye to save my life. I was shaking, jerking the trigger, and even flinching. I am usually a pretty good shot with my .45colt but I was lucky to get a 15" grouping at 30 yards. Anyone else ever have an illness or stress affect their shooting this badly?

Don't sweat the small stuff - I've had days sooo bad that I went home and welded bayonette lugs on all my firearms.

Sure does look strange seeing one on a pistol - but, hey - what ever works.:cuss:

Bad accuracy range days are nothing compared to malfunction problem range days. Nothing worse than having a malfunctioning firearm at the range. Except having multiple malfunctioning firearms!

Playboy...

If i could reliably get a 15" group @ 30 yards with a handgun, :what: i'd call that a good day, and take my friends out for a few drinks afterwards!

30 yards is approaching the borderline between shotgun & rifle range for my eyes, but something tells me that your eyesight is a bit keener than mine

We've all had days where we couldn't hit the broad side of a barn from inside the barn, ( some of us seem to have more of them than others :cuss: ) but we must learn to accept the little challenges life throws at us. :neener:

I just put 250 rounds through a quarter inch hole at 25 yards with my 22 yesterday (just bought it, had to put aT least half a brick through it)

I need a longer range:eek:

Man don't feel bad at all. I just moved to Rogers and I have not had any trigger time in over a month. I became fed up this past Saturday and found a range at Hobbs State Park just 14 miles from me. I just took my 1911 with me to see what the range is like. It had to be the busiest range I have ever been too, which was not too bad but I am use to shooting alone. There were a lot of factors that caused me to shoot lousy. No illness but I suppose there was a certian amount of stress. Between the stress of moving, trying to find a new job, all the noise, lack of trigger time, bad factory sights that I need to get fixed, new low profile bullets that would not feed, it looked like I was shooting a buckshot at 100yds. After the first 100rd or so I stopped trying and just started shooting and had fun. This was when I looked at the guys target next to me. All I could do was shake my head and laugh. I am a good shooter. I am not worried about what they think and they were not worried about it either. I was happy to be shooting, I met a couple of nice guys that visited the range all the time. I pick up around 150rds of .45acp brass and the guy that was shooting his 2 AR's gave me 200rds of .223 brass.
Yeah, it was a lousy day shooting but it was a good day at the range. My only regret was not getting the name of the two gentlemen that were there the entire time I was, but They both said that they visit the range all the time so I am sure I will see them again and I will get their names then.

Sickness or Stress can cause off days , but better then then being home and always helps relieve some stress.

had one of thsoe days last time out. I can't make ragged little holes but I can do enough to be respectable....couldn't get groups worth anything last time out. I'm blamming it on the federal bulk pack I had :neener:

Uh, no...........

Get well. I know that when I pass from this world to the big gun range in the sky, or where ever, it will be from a coughing jag following a cold........................chris3

I only have days where I'm embarassed for anyone to see me shoot. Now and then I'll take home a good target, but even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while.

There are days when I am tense and my mind is not on the task at hand which is shooting. When I find myself in this situation where I can't get the stress of the world off of my shoulders I usually try to strike up a conversation with someone like the rangemaster. This helps me get my mind into the right frame of mind and the stress of the day off of my shoulders before shooting. When your mind and body is affected by stress you are not going to shoot worth a hill of beans, you are not going to have fun and you are not going to release the stress you wanted to release. To me shooting incorporates the sociableness into the hobby to be effective as a shooter.

One of the reasons I shoot so much is because it releives stress for me. After the week of work I had (and it is only wednesday) I think I need some shooting time this weekend.

Yep BTDT. Not feeling good but needed to make up a league shoot then shoot that night league. NOT a good idea.
Actually I can drop my score just by any strenous activity before shooting. (like shoveling dirt for another part of range or hauling armor plate then hitting firing line. Scores go WAY down.

Got a 55 Russian SKS and it took me 4 years to get to the range which got cancelled because I felt sick. Turned out to be a maglignant tumor outside the bladder.(i'll tell you how they get to it after you have been anesthisized) Got past that & the kidney stones (pun intended) then the next year, when I couldn't run more than 200 yards, found I had lung cancer. After the slice and dice I was happy to shoot and hit the target anywhere. Being sick sucks but being dead really ruins your aim. Be happy. Enjoy. Remember 15 inches is about the square of a chest so your still good enough for a bad situation.
A bad day of shooting is better than....
