My loaded Speer .38 practice rounds, totally failed, to fire. They have sat for several years and only tried in one gun, very light strikes and good with regular rounds.

Yes along with shopping bags and straws and should be banned [ insert Mod groan}. Actually my loaded Speer .38 practice rounds, totally failed, to fire. They have sat for several years and only tried in one gun, very light strikes and good with regular rounds.
This is best placed in the reloading section, and honestly I was confused by the title.

In any case, were they stored in a cool dry place? High temps can have ill effects on powder. As can moisture.

Light strikes aren't an indication of a bad primer. It simply means your firing pin isn't hitting hard enough for the particular primers. Not sure if you are writing about the old speer plastic training rounds? (2 pieces with plastic case and projectile, place a primer in case by hand and push in the "bullet".) If that's the case, it may be you didnt have the primers fully seated. Did you try a second strike on the primers?

It wasn't bad primers because I tried four or five. They have been kept out of heat etc. Tried single and double action several times. They must have pushed themselves out a bit but seem to be where they belong. I am gonna try one now in my Cobra, they were tried in my DW

Thats probably it. The strikes are very light. I have had these loaded a long time and had no problems, years ago with a third gun. I will shoot these again as I didnt let one, possibly go off, today in the apt.

Thanks for moving and my post wasnt meant as a rude crack at any Mods, hope thats understood

Well I tried a round in another gun with the same result. Then I reprimed with a new large rifle primer that went off and cracked the rim. I gathered up all my old prepared rounds, including a full MTM 50 rounder, for testing
