My Uncle, 88 years young, asked me to come over and help him move some stuff out... Que for, I can't throw it away, but if I give it to you, then uou can dispose of it proper.
About half way thru the stuff, he hands me a pistol case and says...clean this up for me, been a while since anyone has cleaned it... ( I still have his rifles he told me to do the same thing to them 4 years ago... he comes by and looks and holds them sometimes)
Never knew he had a pistol... I took pics prior to cleaning it at all...

Great "barn find"!

For a brief second I thought maybe you had comes across some vintage Muscle Car that was now a chicken coop!

If the gun was nickel plated at the factory there should be the letter "N" on the yoke.

I'm guessing from the serial number it was made sometime in late 1947 or early 1948.

Definitely have to show us how it looks after cleaning it up.

Sweet!! Thats a nice piece of family history… and a great shootin’ iron to boot .

My Great Uncle gave me his M&P revolver that he carried from 1945-1965 at Las Vegas PD. I had it restoration blued to bring back much of its original glory. 20 years of sweat and carry left it a bit sparse in the bluing department when I received it. The grips are sterling silver with copper Mexican inlays.

Let us know how your M&P .38 shoots when you get a chance.

Stay safe.

I think that's completely spectacular. But I have to ask, for education purposes, please.
Pictures left to right, top to bottom, 4th photo (second row, right) of the barrel in the frame ... to me, the barrel seems to be bent/canted coming out of the frame. Am I mistaken, is it the angle of the photo, or do I need a trip to the aye [<-- intentional] doctor o_O

-jb, regardless, heckovafind, great price ;)

I thought the same when I first saw the picture. The overall photo looks normal.

Maybe its a trick of the camera angle?

Stay safe.

It was the focus zoom trying to get numbers and dust bunnies to a show up... but a trip to the eye doc never hurts

Yeah...now that's what I'm talkin' about!

Took a few pics of #s and letters, this gun is tight, with very very smooth DA and light crisp SA. Had to have some HQ internal work at sometime in its long life...

Looking at the close-ups, it appears the barrel underlug is relieved for the "knobby" style ejector rod tip, but the gun is sporting the later, narrow rod. I would postulate either the rod has been replaced at some point, or it was a transitional gun that used up some mismatched parts.
Edit, nvm....I think it was just a reflection. Lol.
