Reports of Barnes' hunting bullet performance seem impressive: high rates of pass-through but when people do recover a bullet, near 100% weight retention is common. Does that hold true even if you hit heavy bone, or do the expansion petals break off under that kind of abuse? I'm thinking something like a 130 gr .270 vs elk shoulder.

6.8 mm 85 gr tsx @ 3000 fps loaded by SSA completely blew the far shoulder out of a suitcase doe at 30 yards. (So same diameter close to the same velocity with almost double the bullet weight) Little chunks of flesh decorated the bush behind where the deer had been standing. I could literally put my fist into the exit. So while not the biggest doe and pretty close range the affect lived up to the X. If they fulfill your accuracy expectations have no worries about their performance on game.
Barring a fluke the TSX IMO will deliver devastating results as long as you do your part.
