I was cleaning the barrel on my Kimber CE II and I noticed when inspecting the barrel that the grooves in the barrel seemed to have some residue in them which I can't get out. I have one of those plastic thingey's that collects light and illuminates the barrel so I got a pretty clear view of the barrel.
I have 3000+ plus rounds through the barrel and have cleaned it some 25+ times.
I never noticed this stuff in there before and I can't determine whether it is pitting/rust or dirt or just wear. I flushed the barrel with Flush Out, Hoppes Bore Gel and Hoppes 9 and the residue was still there.
How can I tell whether I am getting it clean enough or whether it's rusting? Nothing else in my vault is rusting and there is no other rust on the gun.
If it is rust, is there anything I can do about it? If it's dirt, how do I get it out? I am not one of those mirror-barrel guys, but I am concerned if this is rust as it means I probably need to keep my safe dryer than I have been keeping it. If it's dirt, why isn't it coming out?
Thanks in advance for your help.
