can anyone tell me what barrel twist an early 80's colt car-15 with 16" barrel has ? i'm told this info is usefull in finding an ideal round for it. thanks......

p.s. i would ask this and other questions at AR-15.com, but they won't let me join with my yahoo/hotmail E addresses.(and i thought it was my breath:D )

As I remember, they were set up for 55gr M193 and had a twist of 1 in 12 inches.

either 1/12 or 1/9. to find out , either measure it, or get any bullets weighing between 64 to 70 grns. if it sprays them at 100 yds, with no visible way to tell if it is a group or a shotgun pattern, it is a 1/12. If you can get two inch or less, recognizable groups, it is 1/9.

Put a bore brush on a cleaning rod and put a piece of tape around the cleaning rod to form a flag. The bore brush will spin in the rifling, all you need to do is measure the distance it take for the flag to make a revolution.

The barrel should be stamped with something like "C MP 1/XX" where XX is a 7,9, or 12 and that's the twist.
