Barrett Fieldcraft

Craig Boddington writing for American Rifleman recorded the following, average of five five-shot groups:

Hornady 168 gr ELD-M—1.58"
Barnes VOR-TX 150 gr TTSX—1.40"
Winchester 150 gr Power Core—2.47"

Certainly the review that was referred to. Just one test, though.

Ahh thanks, I thought maybe it was missing it elsewhere in the g&a article.

Been an interesting thread. Most here seem to be negative about the Barrett Fieldcraft, which surprises me. I thought it would get rave reviews if for no more reconition than name reconition. It generally gets good reviews, the worst being the one mentioned earlier by Craig Boddington. I cast a skeptical glance at that one though, partly because he seemed ill prepaired, partly because I question if he had everything torqued down properly, he admitted he did not with the scope screws, how about the action screws?

The Barrett comes close to what I want in a 308. Granted, I prefer a floor plate and a 3 position safety. The Ruger Laminate Compact would already be in my safe if it had another inch of length of pull and another inch and a half of barrel. That's exactly what I want.

My brother is a Kimber fan. The rifle has feeding issues and is not very accurate. The 1911 is accurate but prone to jam. The 22 conversion works very well though.

The best light hunting rifle I've found to date was a M70 Featherweight in .264WM. But it's heavy compared to the Barrett though.

My Kimber 7mm-08, I thought I had it shooting OK, but I think I fooled myself. No one has been able to get any kind of consistent groups out of it (no, it's not that we all can't shoot). There have been a few "lucky" groups.

Not sure if you are still considering the Barrett or not, but I love mine in 6.5 CM. Picked it up used for a great price, and after figuring out what factory ammo it likes, It shoots extremely well. I have never been much of a small group shooter, and with this light of a rifle I was a little nervous about my ability to shoot it well. I have been extremely pleased.

Shot this five shot group this morning with hornady precision hunter 143 grain eld-x. 100 yards.

Sure there are plenty of accurate rifles out there, but the quality of this one is obvious when you pick it up. I posted some other pictures in a separate thread a little while back.
If you get it, I don't think you'll regret it.
