I am looking to get a new 10/22, paid $220+tax for mine in 2021, now I want the same rifle(black on black synthetic stock with the sling holes in the molded stock at academy i do NOT want to drill into a stock for a sling and prefer with one already molded into it, academy is the only vendor that gets these with the holes already in it) and the price is $299+tax+some stupid $10 firearm transfer fee now what the hell, $330 for a 10/22 is starting to get out of budget territory, is this a rip off or the new norm?

I think it’s the norm. Even a Shield Plus runs $400 new. However, Academy always takes me out to the woodshed regarding prices. I’ve heard that glocks are no longer budget friendly and the true budget options are Taurus and hi points.
Well damn it, i wonder if i should wait til the 4th of july for a sale or just pull the trigger now on it, i am going to buy it regardless but even saving $20 would help lol of course their email coupons dont work on firearms.

I am having a hard time finding out if all new 10/22s with synthetic stocks come with the sling holes molded into the stock like this one(https://www.academy.com/p/ruger-1022-syn-22-lr-semiautomatic-rifle?sku=black-right--22-lr-18-5) or do they not, like this one (https://g4gguns.com/product/ruger-1...=gundeals&utm_medium=gundeals&utm_id=gundeals) even though they are the exact same model #1151 i contacted ruger and even they didnt know. I have emailed the other websites and they cant give me answer but that is imperative to me to buy the rifle or not.

Exactly youre totally right but I need one, my last 10/22 got damaged and I have a ton of ammo/mags I cant use until i do lol
Why not fix your old one, if it's a receiver problem they make aftermarket receivers. You could start a custom build

That's the going rate for a 10/22 anymore. But I wouldn't buy the basic version. Ruger has made well over 100 versions of the 10/22 over the years with 50+ currently showing on their website. Most all of them are a better rifle than the basic version and they just don't cost that much more.

No way I'd pay $333 for that rifle when I can pay $40 more for this version in SS, basically the same price in blue. Find a small local gunshop that does transfers. In most places you pay no tax on on-line orders shipped to your local store. There are 2-3 places locally that will do the transfer fee for $5. Some places charge as much as $20. But you'll have a much better rifle.

Ruger 10/22 .22 LR Light Varmint Target 20" Stainless Threaded Barrel TALO Exclusive | 31167 | Blue/Black, 20" Barrel, 10+1 Rounds, Wood Stock - Buds Gun Shop

I have 2 of these, one in SS, the other in blue. They are much more accurate than the standard rifle with a stock designed for adults, not kids.

Other options here.

Its actually not a fee IF you buy the display model, issue is academy started on may 10th only carrying one of each gun they have in stock and its the display model its beat up missing finish etc and they dont order another until they sell that one and refuse to sell it for cheaper. So when you goto order online and ship to store(mind you this is all within academy im ordering online from academy.com and shipping to an academy store) its a $10 fee now when it used to not be to get a brand new rifle and not a scuffed up display model. It was so bad in 3 different academies yesterday, all display models, that the bluing on the barrel was rusting already on each, missing paint on the receiver and one didnt even have the scope mount in the box, they lost it and refused to discount the gun lol ITS SUPPOSED TO COME WITH IT, its part of the rifle! even said it on the box ha.

Ruger has always been the working man's gunmaker. Their street prices are usually 75-80% of MSRP. The MSRP on that model is $389 and 75% of that is $291, so sounds about right.

A while back, after reading another thread bellyaching about Ruger prices, I went back through 20yrs of catalogs and studied 10/22 prices, along with inflation. Ruger's most popular rifle had gone up as the years passed but not even as much as inflation. The rifle was actually relatively MORE affordable when I did my study than it was 20yrs prior. So I suggest buying the 10/22 you want and saving your hostility for the people actually responsible for the dwindling value of your dollars.

They all have the same adult length of pull of 13.5".

.

Where did this idea come from that working man is all a brunch of losers that can't afford anything? I go to work and even have a job that requires work boots. But I can afford really expensive guns. Quite a lot of the working man guys are bringing in some real money.

For $450-ish there are French walnut versions that look awesome! I saw this on the rack in Maine last week and really fell for the looks.

If you want something different, I paid well under $400 at Buds in pandemic-era March of 2020 for my walnut-stainless International version (that has swivels attached ). These are still around.

The takedown with a MagPul stock are another nice option.

Stay safe.

Every working man doesn't make the same pay. Pocket change to you may be groceries for someone else.

Unfortunately, the cheapest Ruger 10/22's I've seen on a shelf lately are $329 for basic wood carbine.

How hard is to install sling swivels or have some do it for you?
If you lived near me, I probably have a 10-/22 I could sell you. (they tend to reproduce:))
The struggle is real! Every time I see a version I don't have like the stainless with laminated stock previously posted, I force myself to reason "how many do I really need?"

So far I've limited myself to 5 variants.

Bingo.

I’ve done that math for a LOT of firearms with contiguous production, and going back even 50-70 years, firearm prices DECLINE relative to inflated value of a dollar. Plainly, guns have gotten more affordable over time.

But to the OP’s dilemma, I personally wouldn’t spend an extra $100 on a firearm to avoid spending 30min installing $8 in swivel studs.

I remember seeing 10/22 variants selling for $179 at TSC and thinking i should pick one up but then talking myself out of it.

I sure miss that Trump slump

OP, I would suggest looking on the used market or purchasing replacement parts for your 10/22.
