Well, I had to drive a friend up to Atlanta the other day
and discovered a new Bass Pro Shop. On the way back home
I had to stop and take a quick peak inside to see what they
carried.

I stumbled upon a large selection of air rifles. Some .22 most
were .177 and around 1,200 fts. They were priced around the
$300 mark so, I am sure they are much more than the pellet
guns I remember of my youth.

For some strange reason I really want to get one of these for
cheap plinking purposes. Is this crazy? or should I just spend
my money on a good .22 rimfire?

I have three Beeman air guns.

You can't beat them for cheap off-hand rifle practice in the basement.
All you need is a steel pellet trap.

One word of advice though.
Forget the Magnum class 1,200 FPS spring-cockers for plinking fun.

They require so much cocking force (30 - 45+ pounds) they will wear you out.

My most fun air-rifle is my Beeman R-7.
It's a 700 FPS model that takes 18 Pounds to cock.
You can shoot it all day.

High velocity isn't everything in a air-rifle!
The faster they start out, the faster they slow down anyway.

I wasn't aware of that. Thanks rcmodel, for the info.

Here is the one I was looking at "BSA XL Tactical .177 Air Rifle"

I will be sure and check out the Beeman line you mentioned
as well. Thanks :D

I have a cheap RS-2 Beeman. Came with 2 barrels. 22 & 177.
I used steam-pipe wrapping & wrapped it round the barrel to dampen the vibration. It really did help my groups.
