The BATFE has released its annual report on the number and types of firearms manufactured in the US for 2014. The report can be found here.

The numbers show that a total of 9,050,626 firearms of all types were manufactured in 2014 which is down slightly from the 2013 total of 10,844,792. However, compare those numbers to 2007 when a total of 3,922,613 guns were manufactured.

Surprising that revolvers larger than .44 mag produced, were half again as many as revolvers between .38 and .44 mag produced.

And of course in many States you can manufacture without a license for personal use without reporting it. With all the hype over 80% lower receivers I would guess there's a little more.

Pretty cool info though.

Edit: Thought there was set # you could make a year without a manufacturing license, Sam1911 set me straight (again).

I don't want to be a grammar/usage cop, but the phrase "half again" doesn't mean 50%. It means 50% more than the original/first number; i.e., 150%.

Interesting, I like looking at this stuff..

Seems the most popular pistol caliber is up to 9mm 1,270,419 pistols

Most Exported Pistol, Glock at 31,934 pistols

Remington made 413,534 Shotguns

I see Hi Point is Beemiller of Mansfield Ohio and they produced 90,100 Pistols.

Henry Rifles is Henry RAC of Bayonne NJ made 300,312 Rifles

I see Red Jacket is still in business (Sons of Guns TV show), made 82 Rifles
.

And of course in many States you can manufacture up to 5 a year without a license.
Up to five?

There isn't any limit on how many firearms you can make for your own use. Nor do you have to tell anyone you're doing it so they could count anyway.

Interesting that American Derringer is (was) still in business.

I would like to know the story behind some of these single gun producers, especially the guy making one .25 or .32 pistol in a year.
