BATFE Abuse

A similar problem happend with Gilman & Mayfield in Fresno, CA. The store's license was under Gilman's name, and the ATF found very minor mistakes in paperwork, and revoked Gilman's license.

Fortunately, Bill Mayfield had an FFL, and they changed the name of the store to William B. Mayfield, Inc.

I don't understand why the ATF has been on such a tear lately.

Its ridiculous. The ATF pulls stunts like this because someone writes the state postal abbreviation rather than spelling it completely, or similarly irrelevant errors.

Minor clerical errors?

From an article in the Times-News at magicvalley.com

"Red's manager, Ryan Horsley, admits when the business sold guns it sometimes left blank required parts of a gun purchase form, omitted a background check on a special order, failed to log multiple handgun sales to the same customer in five working days, did not keep track of guns returned to manufacturers, threw away denied applications dealers are required to keep for 20 years and failed to post a gun safety sign and pamphlets."

Considering that the US federal .gov cannot account for thousands of firearms of their own...

I thought I saw a comment a while back that part of the problem is that the BATFE does not have any statutory authority to give any lesser penalties than revocation of license. May be more to it I guess.
