I have one of those gunsmithing screwdriver sets that has a bunch of bits that fit into a handle, and the brand is Wheeler Engineering. I was using the next-to-smallest screwdriver bit the other day and the tip snapped off.

I was sitting right in front of my computer at the time, so I Googled Wheeler Engineering, and was linked to Battenfeld Technologies, their parent company. Besides Wheeler, Battenfeld also owns Caldwell, Tipton, and Frankford Arsenal as well as a couple of companies that I am not familiar with.

Anyway I e-mailed them and asked them if I could purchase a replacement #3 screwdriver bit, and if so how would I go about it?

Today a fairly large box - about 8" x 8" by 10" - shows up, and all it contains is a single #3 screwdriver bit. The amazing thing is that my e-mail signature has just my name and city and state - no street address or zip code. But the package was addressed with my full name, street, city and zip, so not only did they just send the replacement bit at no charge, but they had to do a little digging to find the rest of the info!

So remember: Wheeler Engineering, Caldwell, Tipton, Frankford Arsenal, and Battenfeld Technologies - A Class Act!

I would have to agree with you. They have replaced a couple of items for me with no questions asked.
I believe you have to be selective in the products that you buy which they manufacture or import. Some are great and some not so much. I usually read many reviews before purchasing anything, providing that I have the time.

Glad to hear that they replaced it.

First time I used my Wheeler big screwdriver "gunsmith" set, one of the tips broke on a screw that was not even that tight!

That's why I replaced that set with the REAL gunsmith set - Brownells. I've never had an issue out of hundreds of uses.

i have one of their really spiffy chronographs
and its awesome to get personal support from the developer for the software

but wait... the grape vine has spread that S&W is buying Battenfeld Tech
so be prepared for everything to wash into the sea :cuss:

They also own a major plastic manufacturing company, and have been quietly acquiring companies. http://ir.smith-wesson.com/phoenix.zhtml?c=90977&p=irol-newsArticle&ID=1925821

They've been doing in-house Maximum Corrosion Resistant (MCR®) treatment for the M&P pistols for the last couple of years, instead of out-sourcing it (Melonite QP process). Why pay a royalty for a process trademarked by someone else when you can invest in the equipment and expertise to do it yourself ... and then start doing it for other companies, as well? ;)

You might be surprised by the number of manufacturing, machining, forging, heat-treat and assorted other things they've been quietly doing (some ND agreements, it seems), including for other gun companies, with their increased capabilities in recent years.
