Be Careful At The Bank

If you need to (and have the chance) , getting ready to shoot somebody is a good tactic as it puts you more aware and lessons your response time. I wouldn't have told about he gun being "at ready" but I wasn't there either. I'd say a good job particularly if they nab the scum. Give your dog a scratch behind the ear for me.

DNS was right that pulling up behind them probably put you in more danger. That being said I still think that it was a good decision. I think every citizen has the responsibility to aid in the solving of a violent crime, even if it means taking a risk. What if the next guy robbed at this location is a friend of yours?

BTW - if they had rammed your car then the gun might have fallen on the floor, but the seatbelt definitely would have locked up, making it nearly impossible to quickly draw from your holster.

pshhawwww! i would have tossed two smoke 'nades as i was pulling forward so they wouldnt know which side i'd reappear on, and then i'd push the candy red button on my dashboard that flips out my trusty colt 6721 with a loaded magazine ready to insert and chamber a round. i'd have parked with the armored side of my vehicle to the perps (not going to divulge which side of my car is armorerd, you know, for tactical reasons) and covered them with my weapon while i activate my automated 911-calling device on hands free and given dispatch a Sit-Rep.

i'm so tactical it hurts!

but seriously sean, you did good!

why would you mention your gun to the cops at all?
He already explained that. "First to report something is usually believed by the police." He reported what he actually did, so that IF one of the perps saw the gun and tried to claim that he "brandished" it at them, he couldn't be accused of trying to hide that little factoid from the police.

I think he did right.

One thing I have seen at Washington Mutual that I would love to see at other banks is a walk-in ATM.
During banking hours, you enter a door and make a 90° left or right turn to enter the branch.
After hours when the banl is locked up, you can still walk in the first door to use the ATM. The door requires you to swipe an ATM card to gain access and since the entire front is glass, you can see anything or anyone inside before entering. I've also discovered that some banks ATM cards will open it and some will not. Most credit cards will though.
I'll always take another layer of security if I can get it.

While its not the most secure setup, it certainly beats most banks having you stand outside.
