Be careful...

You people do realize it's just as easy to kill a deer from the ground, don't you?
While I would agree when using a rifle, for archery, it's much easier to get deer in range from an elevated stand than while sitting on the ground, even when using a blind. Comes down to your scent cone and being able to get away with movement. Portable/permanent tree stands did not become legal here in Wisconsin till 1971. Before then, you could hunt from a tree, but you had to stand on a limb. Many times on opening weekend of gun season on public land, standing on a limb was much safer than being on the ground. For the first few years after stands became legal, deer basically refused to look up. When they did, they did not get alarmed from what they saw. Similar to coming up on them from water. They learned fast tho. Similar to the first "Rut" type scents. First few years after they came out, you wouldn't want to have them on you. I shot several bucks that came running in and refused to leave until they got stuck. Had bucks fighting under my stand because of a scent ball with Rut scent on it. Nowadays it scares off more deer than it attracts....especially when it comes to mature deer.
