Just wondering if anyone here has the bear Creek 7.62x39 AR upper, or rifle, and what their experience has been....couldnt resist picking up a PSA MOE lower for 150 bucks this weekend, and am thinking an AR in 7.62x39 would be kind of fun to have....

Never heard of them before now but I'm glad I saw this post. ;) If you get it I'll be curious to see what you think.

I dont have any experience with the complete uppers, but i used a striped side charger to build my .300AAC. Zero complaints, well machined and one of the few i could find with a reciprocating right side handle. Only thing that MIGHT be considered an issue if you go with the side charger is its a heavy walled upper, not something i had an issues with on that build.

i've heard that as well, but have also read the mags have been redesigned for better feeding. honestly, for what this carbine will be, a 20 round mag would be great, but i could even manage with ten rounders if thats i what worked reliably. if only the fives were reliable,i'd probably pass and look at something else though.

I think its around 20 rounds that there start being issues with stacking. hopefully one of the AR gurus will come along and provide some real information, ive only shot a couple x39 ars, one worked great with 10rndrs, the other had a big long mag that jammed every time the owner tried to load it completely, it was expensive i guess cause he only had the one mag.

I have a Windham Weaponry WW-15 in 7.62x39 and four 30-rd steel mags that have yet to have a feed issue, even with steal Wolf Polyformance ammo. Love the rifle and may be worth a look for you to check out Windham.

+1 on ASC standard capacity (30 round) mags. Feed without a hitch in my Robinson XCR...

well, I pulled the trigger so to speak on Bear Creek upper. With a grand total, including all shipping and ffl fees, and 2- 20 round mags, of $515, i couldn't resist. already have PA microdot i can throw on there to start with, then scope it down the road if i decide to.

Let us know how you like it when you get it.

well, here she is in her present form....bear creeek BCA 47 upper, PSA MOE blemished lower thaat i cannot fin d a blemish on, and a PA microdot. Also have a Wolff extra power hammer spring on hand, as well as an enhanced firing pin for greater reliability with steel case ammo. As a bonus, the day before i got the rifle, i was tasked with cleaning out a deceased relative's ''gun room'' and among various other teasures found reloading dies and 3 boxes of brass cased ammo in 7.62x39. Although not a handloader currently, the acquisition of his equipment may inspire me to become one, espeically since he happened to have dies for almost everything i shoot aside from 6.5 creedmore and 7mag.

Good lookin blaster there! Did you get any range time?

Ive got a spare 7mag die set u can have.

no, hasn't been shot yet. got hit with a case of the flu,and while pretty much recovered, i still have a very sore lower back from coughing so much for so long. hopefully the weather here will still be cooperating next weekend. As for the dies, that would be awesome! I'd gladly pay you shipping for them if nothing else :)

Finally got some trigger time with this rifle the other day, and while the 20 round mags seem a bit stiff and in need of some break in, otherwise things worked well. I threw on a Redfield 2x7, and did a bit of shooting at 50 yards. I got the scope zeroed for the most part, but didn't really shoot for group size. that said, I can say this rifles is leaps and bounds more accurate than my WASR-10/63 was, or at least I can shoot this rifle considerably better. Rapid fire, I put 20 rounds in a cluster the size of my fist without much effort at all, just shooting as fast as I could re-center the crosshairs. I've always liked the 7.62x39 round, and have an SKS and have had a WASR. Despite liking the round, and though I appreciate the SKS for what it is, I feel this rifle is going to become my favorite 7.62x39 quickly. So far, I'm happy with the rifle ,and can see it getting a decent amount of use in the future as a "ranch utility rifle" of sorts, and if not that, as a fun, cheap plinker :) No issues with steel cased ammo, either, BTW, as that was all I shot, a combination of wolf and Hornady SSTs

Good to hear your initial thoughts on your Bear Creek upper.

I assembled a whole 7.62x39 rifle and it is my favorite to shoot, I like the recoil impulse you get and it has appreciable accuracy given the combloc steel cased ammo I've been putting through it. So far I've tried HP, SP and FMJ's from Wolf, Tula, Red Army and Fiocchi (brass) and have only had a 2-3 misfeads on the SP's early on, but I think the feed ramps have smoothed out with use by now, I have about 800 rounds through mine. I mostly shoot with 20 round magazines in both ASC and C-Products, and sometimes I use the 10 rounders for bench shooting. I have a couple of 28 round C-Products but I haven't used them yet, as I prefer and think that 20 rounds is enough for my needs, but I need to dig those 28 rounders out and put a couple 100 rounds through them and test them out.

Just FYI for the hi-cap magazines the 28 rounders seem to be the best to stop at as they will fit in most standard AR15 mag pouches, when you get up to the 30 rounds magazines they have to have more of a curve preventing one to use standards pouches.

I probably won't have a real need for anything bigger than 20, personally. I did grab a 5 rounder too, as I have an urge to take this set-up deer hunting, but.....this year, I drew an "any deer" tag which here in SD, means any whitetail or any mule deer, as opposed to the "any whitetail" tag I've drawn the last several years....and while our shots on whitetail are often in pretty thick cover and relatively close.....I'm not sure I want to be hampered by my cartridge choice if a big ol' muley hangs up at 350 yards and wont allow for a stalk.....so chances are, THIS year, it'll be my new Savage 6.5 Creedmoor, or my tried and true Model 70 7 mag......or, I can just throw them ALL in the truck, and hunt with what suits me or the terrain dictates :) I have no doubt this AR will see some time in the woods at some point though, as I've taken a number of deer with the cartridge already and know its capability, and have no doubt this platform can deliver it accurately.
