Here in the U.P. of Michigan we have our fair share of those rodents and I too will attest to the damage they do to the forest and trout streams.
A couple of years ago a local old geezer was having trouble with a beaver pond backing up onto his land from his neighbour's place. Seems that when he asked if he could remove the beavers and the dam his recently transplanted city folk neighbours were horrified that anyone would want to harm those itty bitty cutesy animals. Besides they didn't want anyone crazy enough to own a firearm on their land.
So the old guy contacts the MI DNR and they say he could apply for damage funds but he won't get any because the budget for the fund is used up. Sorry.
So the geezer takes a couple of 5 pound cans of black powder and trespasses his way to the dam and sets it off.
The sheriff came and took him away. The district judge being a trout fisher and no fan of beavers and their dams fines him $50 for trespass, then suspends sentence for a year ( he behaved and it was removed at that time)and because it was black powder the ATF agents from Marquette went back without bring any charges.
The beavers moved on and so did the city folk.
Love those old geezers.
