I saw CCI small rifle BR primers at the shop. The seem to be priced a penny more than the standard primers. What makes them better?

They undergo the same manufacturing process as a standard primer. However, they are made by people who are more consistant than anyone else working there. The hardness is the same, the priming compound is the same, the burn rate is the same, the thickness is the same...the only thing that is different is WHO at the factory makes them.

That's correct. There was an article in one of the trade magazines a couple of years ago, describing the process for Match primers. It's the experienced people making them that makes the difference.

Hope this helps.

Unless you are a benchrest shooter you probably won't notice any difference unless you and your guns are capable of shooting 1/2", or less, sized groups at 100 yards, minimum.

a couple of weeks ago someone posted pics of a series of primers being fired and you could see the flash ! The bench rest primers seemed to have a hotter flash !? not sure if it means anything or not , it could be just the pictures ! I have been using rem 6 1/2 primers with my casull loads .but will try the 7 1/2 benchrest primers when they are expired !Kevin
