bench rest primers

If I am understanding bench rest primers correctly...they are the same thing, but are supposedly assembled at the factory by the more senior techs that works the manufacturing line. Is that correct?

If I were to substitute a regular primer with a bench rest primer I would not need to make any adjustments to my loads.

Am I correct?

They are more accurately assembled with stricter controls on weights and measurements.

I would say you could probably just swap them out and be fine, but ideally you should drop to start charge and work up. I personally just drop down a grain and work up from there.

Unless you are a benchrest shooter with one of those monster 40 lb rifles you would notice no difference in their use. The first poster is correct in describing their manufacture of these primers and basically they are much more consistent than regular primers, how much so I have no idea. No, you do not have to change your load if you substitute BR primers for regular primers.

Well you probably don't have to change your load, but technically you should drop your load and work back up, especially if you are working near max load.

The BR primers have thicker cups. I use Rem 7-1/2's in my AR loads. They say the thicker cups will prevent slamfires. I seem to have good luck with them, unfortunately I'm down to a few thousand of them and can't find anymore. I'll be switching to WSR after they are gone. Here's some interesting info on primers:

Agh come on now, their not that heavy, except for unlimited class.

10 1/2 (Light Varmint Class-Short Range) to 22 lbs (F Class-Long Range). The unlimited guns are...well..unlimited. Rail guns with no weight limit.

The Federal Benchrest primers (205M) are the same as their 205 (Small rifle Mag) Primers. No need to adjust anything. Like posters have said, just assembled by the most experienced workers.
