I've had this knife for a couple of years now. It's big and heavy, but I love it. Problem is yesterday the auto-opening feature started working in reverse. I nearly lost a finger in the process. I'd like to send it back, but seem to remember Benchmade's website stating they will only sell their auto knives to LEO/Active Military. I was active military when the knife was purchased and my state allows me to own such a knife as a civilian, but how will Benchmade act about doing warranty work on this knife and sending it back to a mere peasant such as myself?

Is the repair one that I could likely perform on my own. I'm pretty mechanically inclined, but would hate to ruin a fairly expensive knife if Benchmade will repair it and send it back to me. Thanks in advance.

You have to ask their customer service folks about their policy instead of us.

Considering that the knife is a coil spring auto I don't understand what you mean by "working in reverse". If you mean the auto-axis release is working in "reverse" I think I might understand.

Regardless, open the knife, run light oil through it, blow out with air (protect your eyes) and see if it removes any "crud" that is causing the problem.

...so are you saying that it automatically closes when you depress the button?

as for doing any work on it yourself.......i would advise against it, they can be fairly complex....and it actually says in the manual that it will void the warranty if you attempt to work on it yourself......

they may only sell to LEO/Military.....but if you can legally own it, theres really no reason for them not to do work on it and return it to you....it really cant hurt to call and ask.
