Hello folks!

I just bought a Benelli Nova Tactical pump in 12 gauge with a 18.5" barrel basically for HD.

My wife has verbalized interested in shooting it. She has not shot a shotgun before. I haven't shot this particular shotgun either. Benelli is selling their Nova Pump Mercury Recoil Reducer for their Nova pumps. For those who have experience with it, is their a significant reduction in recoil? I need to know if it is worth the extra $100 and 14oz it adds to the weight of the gun.

I know she should try the 20 gauge or evern the .410 shotgun. But I have to work with what I have.

Thanks for the replies.

The Nova alone is not that bad depending on the ammunition shot and I have shot all sorts out of mine fine until you get to the heavier loads, now my friend has the Super Nova which has the added Mercury Recoil Reducer and it most certainly DOES make a difference in felt recoil.

The Nova is already the heaviest pumpgun on the market. The Mercury Recoil reducer will add another 1/2 lb. I've tried one and the difference in recoil was not enough to justify the expense or extra weight. A better recoil pad is a much better investment.

I have read where other guys have just added 1/4-1/2 lb of weight to the buttstock and got the same results as the mercury reducer, for much less money.

Thanks for your responses. I guess a good Benelli gel recoil pad or even a limbsaver recoil pad should help.
