I am in the process of getting an M1S90 18.5 barrel w/ pistol grip stock and 7 round magazine tube. This is based on the discussion regarding brands and whether pump or semi is the way to go for HD and probably some recreational shooting later on.

While at the gun store (here in the Philippines), I saw a Benelli Recoil Reducer accessory. Its a cylinder choke w/ extension for a muzzle break.

Can you give me some information regarding this item and how it affects performance and reliability. Is it also usable for all types of load?

Thanks

You might try it out first......

I have a Benelli M1 Super 90 with all your features, and I was considering something like a recoil buffer, until I fired it. It kicks like an 870 does, and is not bad. I reduce the recoil by using Tactical OO Buck and Slugs. The reduced recoil felt is 60% of the full house stuff, and is very manageable. I will be using the M1 on Saturday in a 3 gun match, and I will shoot #4, #6, and #8 bird shot. The trick to shooting lighter loads for me in the M1 is to tuck teg shotgun in tight and whale away. Never had a FTF or FTE. The M1 is the primary HD weapon, followed by a pair or AR's and an L1A1. The M1 is fast becoming my favorite overall weapon.:D

In my M1S90, I use "Tactical reduced recoil" slugs and 1 1/8" shot exclusively. It runs great and does not kick too bad. I never remember recoil during matches anyway.

If you want to reduce recoil, replace the op spring with the "standard" weight one (it comes with a heavier one stock) and get your bolt carrier milled to remove some mass. I suggest Benny Hill in TX for the work.

Thanks guys for the info. Unfortunately I have to wait 1 1/2 to 2 months for the processing of the papers of my Benelli here in the Philippines.

I am still curious as to this muzzle break recoil reducer. Its made by benelli and is a perfect fit. It adds about 2 1/2 inches to the overall length. I initially wanted the Benelli Entry model but was swayed to the Tactical model after reading the comments on this forum.

Was planning on installing the forearm light but heard that realiabity will be affected.

Am moving from my Mossberg Bullpup to the Benelli Tactical M1S90. It will be my first semi shotgun. Mossberg was intimidating to look at but quite heavy for the wife. Also we don't get to shot much which is why I thought the semi would be more practical than a pump.

Anyone else know of thie Benelli muzzle break that screws into the barrel. Here in the Philippines it cost about $215. My M1S90 came out to about $1517 converted from Philippine currency. Unfortunately firearms are heavily taxed here :-(

Thanks for the suggestion Zak.

What would you suggest as a good all around ammo for home defense and for sport shooting (clays) ?

I shoot #7.5 "Winchester AA127" for most 3Gun and Trap (swap out to the full choke for trap).

The shotgun is not my defensive weapon of choice, but I would use #00-#4 Buck.

I agree on the carbine thing. Wanted a Galil SAR or a AK47 but here in the Philippines they are classified as high power and not allowed to civilians :-(

I will have to make do with the Benelli M1S90 w/ Breneke Rifled slugs and Fiocchi 00 buckshot.

Do rifled slugs like the Breneke loosen the choke of a Benelli or does it turn to tighten the choke?

I have shot many "tactical / reduced recoil" rifled slugs through the Benelli IC and M chokes without problem. I have done some but not many through the full choke. I have NOT used the Breneke slugs, just because there's no local source.

As long as you tighten the choke properly and check it periodically, it shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks a bunch for your help. You and this forum have been alot of help for novices like me.

Oh well still waiting from Ben M1S90. I am currently reading the manual w/c the store already gave to me in advance.

BTW for home defense I also have a B-HP and HK USP both in 9mm. Will be giving up my Mossberg Bullpup and Glock 26 for the Benelli. My wife finds the Bullpup heavy and the issues regarding pump action shotguns for moderately trained people over a semiautomatic as I have read in the forums has been enlightening.
