I was shooting this piece for the first time in maybe two months. The trigger stopped releasing the sear. I took the action out of the stock and found that the plastic linkage between the trigger housing and the lever had broken. The rifle seems cocked, but the trigger will not reset or fire. When I cock the barrel, there is no resistance, as if the piston is charged and waiting to be released. I know I need to replace the linkage. Why isn't the sear functioning? It looks like that cheesy little plastic linkage is the only thing keeping the cocking lever in contact with the piston shaft. Since it's broken, could the piston be charged while the trigger (which will not reset when I cock the barrel) is "fired"?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Yes. It sounds like the trigger is not releasing the piston to fire the gun.

You'll want to be very careful if you take the gun apart as the amount of energy stored in the cocked piston is considerable and easily sufficient to cause serious injury.
