Sounds crazy to compare these two together. One having short range power the other long distance. I have a Beowulf now and its a great weapon and certainly impressive but the ammo and reload supplies are just impossible to come by.
I been seeing a Savage 110 Ba everytime I visit my friends house and he is considering trading for it. Does anyone have one? anyone heard of the performance on a BA 338?
I know I can read the Savage website but of course 1st hand actual ownership is always the best feed back.
We have a long range match coming up and the Savage seems to be the way to go

.338 Lapua Mag?

I'd be hard pressed to pull the trigger on a half a dozen rounds in that gun, much less shoot a match with it. <ouch> Much less in a rifle chambered for $5 bills. Even if you reload it's probably a $1 bill.

Long range match? How long? It'd be >1,000 yards before you start seeing the benefits over something like a 6.5-284, or a .284 Win.

Even out to 600 yards a .243 Win would be good enough.

Need a long range match magnum? Go with a 7mm WSM.

It will shoot just fine. BUT the 338 is an entirely different animal. Great round, but it is not cheap. 100 new brass $250ish, but you can load them quite a few times. 300g smk runs 50-60 cents (500 pack on sale at midway now), and you will be looking at about 30 cents powder as well.

I am not sure about how easy your beowulf is to find components, but I can always get components on midway for it. Powder is reloder 25, easy to get. Regular mag primers are easy as well. Cabellas always carries the brass. SOOO usually all I have to order is the projectiles.

You may want to look at getting a 338 edge. Custom chambering, but similar performance with less cost in brass. 338 Rem ultra mag is worth a look as well since it is a factory chambered round, less costly, and similar in performance. 340 weatherby is similar, but is costly like the lapua.

That savage rifle is a nice piece. I would have no qualms about the stick whatsoever.
DO keep in mind the barrel life on the lapua is not that great.
All depends on what you are doing and what you can afford.

I presume you mean .338 Winchester Magnum, not the .338 Lapua Magnum. If that assumption is correct, I can assure you that the .338 Win Mag is a killer, and will likely be accurate in the Savage 110 platform (mine was).

However, I would not trade a .50 Beowulf (on an AR platform) for a Savage bolt-action straight up. You would be taking a real beating.

Sell your upper (and dies) and buy yourself a new Savage. hey, I might be interested in that upper myself. ;)

Where are you looking for components? Lately they seem to be readily available for the Beowulf. I just got in a bunch of brass from miwayusa.

mbogo, I don't think Savage chambers the 110BA in .338 Win Mag, but I think there is a .300 Win Mag version.

The 110BA is their magnum LR tactical rifle, and is only available in the .338LM and .300WM to the best of my knowledge (but the Savage custom shop will probably build others on request).

It looks like a good deal to me if, and only if, you have the range and skill to stretch it out there well past 1k yds....if not stick with something more manageable, much cheaper, and with a great deal less blast/noise, like a 7mmRM, .300WM, or even a little 'ole .260Rem.
